Washington — Former President Donald Trump and Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona have suggested that outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley is a traitor who deserves to be executed.
President Trump on Friday slammed Army Gen. Milley in a social media post, accusing him of acting behind his back by calling the Chinese side in the final months of the Trump administration.
“If the fake news reports are correct, [Milley] In reality, we were making a deal with China to let China know how the President of the United States thinks,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social site.
“This is such a terrible act that in the past it would have been punishable by death!”
“The war between China and the United States could have been the result of this act of treason,” said President Trump, who is leading in polls for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination by a wide margin.
Milley told Congress in September 2021 that President Trump made it clear to Chinese officials in his final weeks as president that he had no plans to attack China.
“My mission at the time was to de-escalate tensions,” Milley told the Senate Armed Services Committee. “My message was also consistent: Calm, steady, de-escalate. We are not going to attack you.”
gosar Newsletter The paper, published Sunday, said Milley allegedly delayed National Guard support to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, “to undermine then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Party of California) and worked treasonously behind President Trump’s back.” Riot.
“In a better society, kisslings like General Milley who promote bizarre sodomy would be hanged,” Gosar wrote.
Gosar also called Milley, a four-star general with more than 40 years of military service, a “traitor.”
A spokesperson for Milley, who will step down as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the end of September, did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
Asked about President Trump’s comments by MSNBC’s Jen Psaki on Monday night, Pelosi said, “Exchanging words like that should be something that would exclude you from being a candidate for any public office.” Stated.
President Trump regularly belittles military personnel, calling Milley afool” in 2021, with former Secretary of Defense James Mattis calling him “the most overrated general in the world.”
In 2020, atlantic President Trump reportedly refused to visit an American cemetery near Paris in 2018, calling the U.S. Marines buried there “losers” and “sucks.”
After canceling his visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, President Trump reportedly told aides: “Why do we have to go to that cemetery? It’s full of losers.”
Trump later referred to the more than 1,800 Marines killed in the Battle of Belleau Forest in France as “sucks,” according to the report.
The 1918 battle lasted 20 days and ended with the Marines successfully clearing the German camp. The Allied victory remains a lasting symbol in Marine Corps history.
