Donald Trump, who was convicted in New York last week of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to benefit his 2016 campaign, complained again Tuesday that the process was “unfair” to him, adding with dismay that “there was not one sign of a smile from the jury.”
Newsmax Greg Kelly ReportWhen asked if he could “gain an idea of how the jurors were feeling” by reading their body language, for example, the former president said he had no idea what those clues were.
“You heard me say long before the verdict was announced that Mother Teresa could not get a fair trial here. I said it, and it was not possible. I never saw a smile from the jury. No, this was a very unfair courtroom,” Trump complained. “A very small percentage of people [who] “They’re Republicans, and that’s very unfair. And we had a judge who was very unfair.”
Trump is still barred from commenting about jurors, court officials, prosecutors or witnesses due to a gag order in the case — which he has violated 10 times. His lawyers on Monday asked Judge Juan Marchan to lift the gag order, citing the trial’s conclusion and a debate scheduled for later this month between Trump and President Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, Trump supporters Threatening Jurors, prosecutors and Marchan himself were among those taking part, NBC News reported last week, citing the nonprofit research organization Advance Democracy.
The jury in his criminal trial was not the only comment Trump made Tuesday that could have legal ramifications.
The former president is appealing an $83 million defamation judgment for alleging that author E. Jean Carroll’s allegation of sexual assault was false, but he has made the same claim again.
“I’ve never met this woman, I don’t know her, and yet I’m being forced to pay an exorbitant amount for a fictitious story,” he complained.
Trump has continued to attack Carroll since late last month, even after the huge defamation judgment was handed down, with Carroll’s lawyer saying “all options are on the table.”
