President-elect Trump and future First Lady Melania pay tribute to their predecessor president jimmy carter At his funeral Thursday at Woodley Park in Washington, D.C., he and one of his most prominent political opponents appeared to put politics aside.
President Trump and former President Barack Obama, who were seated at the end of the second row of the president’s and vice president’s families, chatted and laughed for several minutes as the rest of the family filed out.
Mr. Trump, dressed in a dark suit and wearing a more subdued blue tie in contrast to his trademark red “Trump tie,” filed shortly before 10 a.m. ET.
As he entered the line, former Vice President Al Gore smiled and quickly stood up to greet him first.

Mr. Gore, a Tennessee Democrat, did not have his girlfriend present at the ceremony. He has been living separately from former First Lady Tipper Gore since 2010.
Also noticeably absent were former Vice President Dick Cheney and former First Lady Lynne Cheney. Trump has often clashed with fellow Republican leaders, with Cheney, whose daughter was a former congressman, calling Trump a “coward” in particular. Liz Cheney’s 2022 re-election bid in Wyoming is doomed.
As Trump entered the line, he briefly shared a moment with his former ally and running mate, former Vice President Mike Pence. Relations between the two soured after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot in which Trump supporters threatened to hang the Indiana Republican.

It’s unclear what Mr. Pence said to Mr. Trump, but a cursory reading of his lips appeared to say, “It’s nice to meet you.”
Notably, former second lady Karen Pence remained seated and did not engage in conversation as her husband and Gore stood to greet President Trump.
After the Trumps were seated, President Obama arrived without Michelle Obama by his side. President Obama paused and exchanged a brief, light-hearted comment with former Vice President Dan Quayle.
Mr. Quayle, the first of two Indiana Republican vice presidents in this generation, sat in the aisle with former first lady Marilyn Quayle, who sat next to Mr. Gore.
Shortly after, former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush arrived.
President Bush appears to have received the greatest greeting of all the living presidents gathered.

Mr. Pence, former first lady Karen Pence, Mr. Gore and the Quayles reached out to greet Mr. Bush. Meanwhile, Mr. Obama and Mr. Trump were seen continuing their conversation unhindered.
When former President Bill Clinton and 2016 presidential runner-up Hillary Clinton arrived, Trump and Obama largely ignored them as they chatted.

When Hillary Clinton took her seat, George Bush appeared to be the first to stand up. Bill Clinton, who was recently hospitalized, appeared vibrant and healthy at his funeral.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Class Douglas Emhoff arrived next.
Mr. Trump visibly did not acknowledge Ms. Harris, and Ms. Harris did not acknowledge Mr. Trump.
Mr. Emhoff stared straight ahead, and Ms. Harris briefly glanced over her shoulder, appearing to frown as she watched Mr. Obama converse with Mr. Trump.

Mr. Emhoff and Mr. Harris smiled for a moment before refocusing on the somber event as the Clintons were seen reading the program.
President Trump and President Obama did not appear to greet President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden when they arrived, but President Trump immediately began chatting with First Lady Melania Biden.

Jill Biden sat down first and helped Joe’s program out of his chair so he could sit down too.
President Biden appeared to wipe the marks on his pants, pat his forehead, and then stare straight ahead. No other family members appeared to greet the Bidens.
A screenshot posted to X also showed outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau watching Trump as the next president arrived.
