Vice President Kamala Harris followed up on former President Trump’s campaign promise to eliminate the federal tax on tips paid to service industry employees such as restaurants, bars and hotels.
Harris vowed to fight for “America’s working families” at a rally on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Saturday night.
“When I was California’s attorney general, we worked together to crack down on wage theft,” she said. “When I was a U.S. senator, we fought together for paid family and medical leave.”

With the support of Culinary Workers Union Local 226, Harris promised the thousands of service and hospitality workers in Sin City that she would “eliminate the tip tax.”
“And earlier this year, here in Las Vegas, we celebrated your historic contract win. And I promise you all here that if I am president, we will continue to fight for America’s working families,” Harris said. “That includes raising the minimum wage and eliminating the tip tax for service and hospitality workers.”
Trump was quick to respond on social media, slamming Harris for “stealing” his policies.
“Kamala Harris, whose ‘honeymoon’ period is over and she is beginning to lose heavily in the polls, has simply copied my anti-tip tax policy,” he wrote. Authentic Social Posts.

“The difference is, she won’t do it. She just wants it for political purposes! This is Trump’s idea. She has no ideas, only steals from me,” he said. “Remember, Kamala proposed the biggest tax increase in history. It’s not going to happen. Make America Great Again!!!”
Kamala’s policy announcement comes after President Trump promised a similar policy during a visit to Las Vegas in June.

“Hotel workers and people who get tips are going to be very happy because when I take office, I’m not going to tax tips. … This has been a controversial issue for years, but you guys provide great service and you take care of people and I think this is really going to be a well-deserved return,” Trump said at the time.
