Close loss in Pau proves Wout van Aert is in good form at the Tour de France
Yesterday’s stage was one of the fastest road stages in the history of the Tour de France, with a shortened mass sprint at Pau allowing Jasper Philipsen to beat Wout van Aert to the finish.
Pidcock becomes the latest major rider to withdraw from the race in the past 24 hours, joining Ayuso and Primoz Roglic, the Slovenian having dropped out from sixth place overall after a crash on Thursday’s 12th stage.
The teams and riders are currently at the starting line, with signings being made ahead of the launch in Pau.
Tom Pidcock withdraws from 2024 Tour de France due to COVID-19 symptoms
Yesterday, Juan Ayuso withdrew from the race early on in Stage 13. The Spaniard withdrew from a top 10 position after testing positive for COVID-19.
Ineos Grenadiers rider Tom Pidcock will not be competing in this morning’s race, with the team announcing he is returning home to recover from COVID-19.
