The long-awaited reconstruction of Cedar Point’s Top Thrills Dragster roller coaster, known as Top Thrills 2, has closed indefinitely, just days after officially opening to the public.
“Top Thrills 2 is currently experiencing an extended closure as Zamperla (the manufacturer of the ride) completes mechanical modifications to the ride,” Cedar Point shared with Fox News Digital on May 12. stated in a press release on the day.
The park continued, “Once the renovations are complete, Zamperla, Cedar Point’s maintenance and operations team, and our third-party ride inspection partners will conduct a thorough review and approve both the renovations and the ride’s reopening. ” he said.

“A reopening date cannot yet be confirmed,” the Sandusky, Ohio-based park said in a statement. Instead, they plan to provide updates on the roller coaster’s progress.

“We are fully committed to reopening Top Thrills 2 as soon as we are confident that we can give our customers the ride they deserve.”
Cedar Point and Top Thrills 2 opened for the season on May 4, 2024.
In an official announcement, Cedar Point described Top Thrill 2 as “the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch roller coaster” on August 1, 2023.

In an email to Fox News Digital, Bybee and Anderson expressed sadness at the ride’s sudden closure, but said they were optimistic the ride would reopen without incident.
“We have no choice but to trust Zamperla, the manufacturer of this vehicle, to resolve the issue.”
“We are disappointed to hear that this ride may be closed for an extended period of time,” Bybee and Anderson said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to everyone who was planning a trip to Cedar Point to experience the new ride.” said.
The two said they had a “great experience at Top Thrill 2” and “never felt in danger.”
