One of the world’s tallest and fastest roller coasters opens this weekend at the Midwest’s iconic theme park.
“Top Thrills 2, the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launched Strata coaster,” will open to the public at Cedar Point on opening day Saturday, according to a release.
A “Strata” coaster is a roller coaster that is over 400 feet tall, according to the release. The first of its kind debuted at Cedar Point in 2003, the release added.
Park officials say the new “reimagined” coaster will feature two 420-foot-tall track towers, “putting riders in the driver’s seat of one of the greatest races in history.”
At the beginning of the ride, guests race down a straight line, reaching speeds of 114 miles per hour. Riders then race skyward to the coaster’s 420-foot-tall “Top Hat” tower.
Cedar Point says the following titles are popular among adrenaline junkies.
“After experiencing zero gravity during the ‘rollback’ (a fan-favorite moment when the train lacks enough momentum to send it over the tower), the train reverses and launches for a second time, reaching speeds of 161 miles per hour. ”, the release states.
Officials say the coaster will have a top speed of 190 mph, a 90-degree backward ascent and a 270-degree spiral.

According to the release, Cedar Point is the second oldest amusement park in the country. According to Six Flags, the Kingda Ka rides are: Six Flags Adventure This New Jersey coaster currently holds the titles of “World’s Tallest Coaster” and “North America’s Fastest Coaster.”
