Top French hotel dishes on Hollywood star’s special request

The Carlton Hotel in Cannes is arguably the unofficial epicenter of the Cannes Lions and the Cannes Film Festival.

This week, advertising executives, media figures and media wannabes will flock to the famous Carlton Terrace to down copious amounts of rosé until the early hours of the morning, before stumbling upon Airbnbs to do it all over again the next day.

Executives from the famed hotel answered some of Page Six’s burning questions about the debauchery that goes on during the ad extravaganza and the recent renovation of this renowned hospitality gem.

Q: On average, how many bottles of rosé wine are consumed at a hotel during the Cannes Lions Festival?

Carlton Cannes: 3,500 bottles (2,510 75cl bottles, 710 1.5L magnums, 175 5L Jeroboams and 105 6L Methuselahs to be exact).

Q: What about the Cannes Film Festival?

CC: 4,050 bottles (or 1,830 regular bottles, 1,065 magnums, 525 Jeroboams and 630 Methuselahs).

question: The Carlton terrace is always full during Cannes Lions. How many people attend on average each night?

CC: During the busy Cannes Lions period, the Riviera Restaurant’s terrace is always bustling: the terrace seats 70 indoors and 160 outdoors, averaging around 230 guests each evening.

What makes this terrace so famous is that it is the only elevated terrace on the Croisette, offering guests unobstructed views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Q: What’s the most extravagant or strangest thing a guest has ever asked you to do?

CC: During the last Cannes Film Festival, Quentin, head bartender at the Carlton Beach Club, had the opportunity to present a signature cocktail to a famous Hollywood actress. The actress was so enamoured with the cocktail that she asked Quentin for the recipe to serve it at her summer birthday party. Quentin prepared a special delivery by gathering the recipe and all the necessary ingredients, including a special cooking method whose details are closely guarded.

Q: The Carlton recently completed a major renovation that is rumored to have cost over $376 million. Can you tell us about it?

CC: Carlton Cannes underwent an extensive renovation over a six-year period, including a two-and-a-half-year closure. Since reopening, the hotel has provided even more exceptional experiences for its guests. Ideally located in the heart of the famous Croisette, the hotel elegantly blends tradition and modernity, exuding renewed ambience and timeless charm. Two recently renovated wings offer luxurious suites, a beautiful courtyard with bar and infinity pool, and a fitness and spa area for ultimate relaxation.

question: Can you describe your most expensive suite?

CC: The renovation has resulted in the creation of two main suites: The Katara Suite is a two-bedroom suite located on the top floor of the hotel. Panoramic and bay windows each open onto two expansive terraces, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Bay of Cannes. The Penthouse Suite is a two-bedroom apartment with its own rooftop. A private pool and outdoor kitchen invite guests to entertain and relax. The Penthouse and all the residences in the hotel extension are ideal for longer stays with family and friends, as well as for hosting meetings, trade shows and private events, such as Cannes Lions.

Q: Last year you worked with Mike Tyson to become an ambassador for the boxing ring at the hotel gym. Do you think Tyson will come train there before his big bout with Jake Paul? Is the ring in heavy use throughout the year?

CC: Please come again. His daughter practices tennis in the area so he is often in the area.

The boxing ring at Le C Club Fitness is used daily and appreciated by everyone from top models to businessmen, boxing enthusiasts to cardio fans.

question: Speaking of collaborations with other celebrities, you collaborated with Brad Pitt on a special cocktail last year. Is it still on the menu and, if so, is it popular?

CC: The “Secret Garden” cocktail remains one of our most popular cocktails for a variety of reasons, including being made with Brad Pitt’s famous gin and customized in-house by our expert bartenders. It’s inspired by our beautiful courtyard garden, but most importantly, it’s just plain delicious. Yes, this cocktail is still on the menu and continues to be a hit.

question: What are some hidden gems on the hotel restaurant and bar menus that guests should definitely try?

CC: Besides the famous and already highly acclaimed Riviera Restaurant and Carlton Beach Club, Luya Restaurant is also recommended, offering a lively atmosphere and uniquely flavorful cuisine from the Anatolian region. The restaurant is lively and cheerful, has a resident DJ and, best of all, a terrace with a spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea.

question: Do you expect an increase in tourism after the Paris Olympics?

CC: The increase in tourism from the Paris Olympics is expected to have a positive impact on the entire country, including Cannes.
