1. Just discovered: an underwater mountain taller than Burj Khalifa
Saildrone Surveyor SD 1200, the world’s largest unmanned ocean mapping vessel, has made a groundbreaking discovery, identifying a previously unknown seamount that is taller than the tallest building on Earth. The ship discovered the 1,000-meter (3,200-foot) seamount while exploring approximately 45,000 square kilometers of undiscovered ocean floor off the coast of California and in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.
