As Alex Ovechkin We’ve linked Wayne Gretzky’s All Time Goal Recordthe Washington Nationals lost their fourth straight game and fell 1-6. Below is some of my takeaways from Split Screen Night in Washington, DC.
- Bats are strong
Despite the loss, my biggest point was how powerful the bats in Nats were. The only way they can get a run now is through long balls. Tonight, CJ Abrams, Lewis Garcia Jr. and Nathaniel Lowe are deeper.
Last year, the Nationals were second on a home run, and had to score multiple hits at once to get a run. However, this year, the power is fully on display, but there aren’t many others. They attacked a lot and the results of the runners in the scoring position were not pretty.
If the situational hit can catch up with the power, the NATS crime could be cooked in gas. However, this season has been a home run or bust so far.
2. The bullpen is still a problem
The Washington Nationals bullpen wasn’t as bad as the first couples game. But that’s not great yet. Tonight, Jose A. Feller was unable to get the job done. While he got Hard was done on missed calls And Dillankru took a bad route to the ball, but Feller still couldn’t tie the game. He gave up a two-run double to Randal Grichuk, who was to decide on the game.
Colin pouches also seem to be a problem. He was not sharp in either of his appearances. Poche’s command was not important, he threw the pitch into the backstop.
On the bright side, Lucas Sims looked good today. It would be great if he could turn himself into a reliable middle reliever from Davy Martinez.
3. They need victory and fast
The Nationals are currently 1-6 and need to hurry. You don’t have to win the seventh game of the season, but it’s pretty close. Corbin Burns pitches on Sunday and the Dodgers will be in town to start next week. If they can’t win tomorrow, 1-11 could be on the table.
If that happens, the whole mood around the team can quickly become ugly. This was meant to be a step forward season, but it looks like the same old NAT that has lost so many games in recent years. With Alex Ovechkin taking up all the headlines for DC, the Nationals are off to a late start again.
