PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Today marks the start of the second half of the road construction season, with three major projects getting underway.
KDKA’s John Shumway talks to us about what you can expect.
These projects include significant lane restrictions in one area and the closure of two major roads.
Route 910 in Wexford
Let’s start with Marshall Township and Franklin Park on Wexford Bain Road.
Major renovations to the Route 910 interchange at Interstate 79 are just a year away, but there’s still work to be done to get everything ready.
Starting today, Route 910, also known as Wexford Bain Road, on both sides of the I-79 overpass will be the focus of surveying and public works.
To allow for this work, traffic will be alternating between one lane in each direction from Sheetz on Nicholson Road to Rite Aid on Devine Drive from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The work will not take place every day as it is weather dependent, but is expected to last about a month and wrap up around August 2nd.
US Route 981 in Westmoreland County
Now, in Mount Pleasant Township in Westmoreland County, Route 981 is set to be closed for the rest of the month.
Workers will be straightening the curve leading to the new roundabout on Hecla Road.
The closure will be in place 24 hours from Fox Run Road to Hecla Road.
The suggested detour is long, but consider using State Street between the roundabout and Mount Pleasant.
They hope to reopen Highway 981 by the end of July.
Montfayette Expressway Construction in West Mifflin
Work needed for the Mont Fayette Expressway project means a portion of Camp Hollow Road will be closed today.
That portion of the road will be closed from the USX Irvine plant entrance on Camden Hill Road to New England Road.
You can get to the Irvine plant from the north through Camp Hollow, but drivers coming from the south must take Route 837 to Lebanon School Road and then continue to Camp Hollow, just above the plant entrance.
Camp Hollow Road is expected to reopen in mid-October.
