“Twits” is the eleventh novel written by Roald Dahl and was first published in 1980. The story revolves around a despicable couple, Mr. and Mrs. Twit. Mr. and Mrs. Twitz live in a dilapidated house, and despite being married, they harbor a deep-rooted animosity toward each other. The general vileness of their activities culminates when they capture a family of birds. Netflix is working on an animated film based on the story as part of its plans to bring Roald Dahl’s memorable work to the big screen.
Rewind to November 2018. Netflix and the Roald Dahl Story Company first announced a partnership to adapt Dahl’s classic works into films. “The Twits” occupied an important place in the agreement. Phil Johnston, known for his work on Disney hits such as “Shrink-It Ralph” and “Zootopia,” joined the project in July 2021. It was originally conceived as an animated series. Johnston was to serve as executive producer alongside Maggie Malone.
however, April 2022, in one of the so-called “Netflix’s big fixes”, the future of The Twits fell into a well of uncertainty. Netflix Animation was undergoing major changes, with projects canceled and executives ousted. Twits were specifically mentioned in this context. However, it was not explicitly canceled.

Netflix’s in-house animation studio is leading the development of “The Twits.” We are collaborating with Jellyfish Pictures. The UK- and India-based studio has made its mark contributing to projects such as How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming and Spirit: Untamed.
As it turns out, the good news is that The Twits is coming to your Netflix screen. There is no official announcement regarding the release date, but it would not be too far-fetched to expect it to be released in 2024.
