Mark Sheehan, guitarist for Irish rock group The Script, died suddenly on Friday at the age of 46.
of statement Posted on the band’s official Facebook page, he was remembered as a beloved “husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend.”
“Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness,” the statement continued. “The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy during this tragic time.”
The band was formed in 2001 by Sheehan, lead singer Danny O’Donoghue, and drummer Glenn Power.
Sheehan, O’Donoghue, Dermot Brown, Terry Daly, and Paul Walker (not related) were in 90’s boy band Mytown from 1996 to 2001.
The Script’s debut self-titled album, featuring songs written by the members, was released in 2008 and topped the charts in the UK and Ireland. The Script have released more albums in the UK than any other Irish artist.
Their hits include “We Cry” (2008), “Unmoved Man” (2008), “Breakeven” (2008), “First Time” (2010) and “Hall of Fame” (2012). , “Super Heroes” (2014), “Rain” (2017).
Sheehan missed part of the script’s tour last year because he wanted to spend time with his family, but there were no indications he was suffering from any health issues.
He has a wife, Rena, and three children.
