The company that sells the microdosing candy continues to refuse to issue a recall, even as the number of cases has more than doubled since the outbreak was announced last week.
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a public warning about products sold under the Diamond Shruumz brand. Products involved include gummies, cones and chocolate bars.
These products are available at a variety of retailers, including online and smoke/vape shops and retailers that sell cannabis-derived products (such as cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC)). A complete list of retailers is currently unknown. FDA recommends that people do not purchase or consume any flavors of Diamond Shruumz brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies from any retail store or online location.
As of June 18, 26 cases have been confirmed. The infected people live in 16 states, and 16 of those who have sought medical attention have been hospitalized.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms reported by patients include:
- Seizures
- Decreased level of consciousness
- Respiratory failure
- nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal pain
- Hallucinations
- Uncontrollable movement
- Abnormal heart rate (e.g. too fast or too slow)
- High or low blood pressure
- Excessive sweating or discharge
- Flushed skin
The FDA has contacted the company about a possible voluntary recall, but discussions are still ongoing.
