Those who work at big law firms may think they live the lives of the rich and famous, but their fame pales in comparison to those who work in the glittering world of Hollywood. Representing a celebrity client means your name is likely to be in the news and your work will be the talk of the household. You may be making a ton of money working behind the scenes from a comfy corner office, but it’s not as great as getting Britney Spears out of a years-long conservatorship.
Entertainment law attorneys have worked with some of the most famous (and sometimes unpopular) clients in the country, and in most cases, the world. Thankfully, for the 18th consecutive year, The Hollywood Reporter has released its rankings recognizing Hollywood’s best legal talent.
Check out the new listings from the entertainment industry Top 100 “Power Lawyers” We called it the Hollywood 100.
Here’s how THR selected the names for its list of the top 100 “powerful lawyers” in the entertainment industry.
Each year, THR editors review hundreds of nominations and vet the candidates to compile a list of the lawyers Hollywood calls on for company-ending legal battles and groundbreaking talent deals.
We rate lawyers as individuals and do not highlight duos or teams. This feature highlights lawyers in law firms, which means unfortunately it does not include in-house lawyers.
These 100 outstanding lawyers, listed alphabetically with their practice areas, law firms and alma maters, are negotiating the deals and fighting the battles that keep the cameras rolling.
I mentioned earlier that behind-the-scenes work doesn’t bring Hollywood talent into the public eye as much as it does into the public eye, and that’s evident when you look at the breakdown of talent, litigation, and corporate lawyers on this list: There are only 17 lawyers in the corporate section of the list, but 62 in the talent section. There are a significant number of lawyers in the litigation section, with 21, many of whom come from well-known large law firms.
Boutique firms dominate the list of talented dealmakers, with firms such as Gang Tyre, Sloane Offer, JSSK, Hansen Jacobson, Schreck Rose and Jackoway Austin appearing repeatedly. Moving to litigation and corporate law, BigLaw is heavily represented, with firms such as the most successful firms on the Am Law 100 and AkinMarissa Roman Griffith) to Cravath (Faiza Saeed) to Gibson Dunn (Orrin Snyder) to Greenberg Traurig (Matthew Rosengart) to O’Melveny (Leah Godesky) from Quinn Emanuel (Alex Spiro).
Congratulations to everyone who made it on the list – this is well-deserved recognition for your hard work in an industry with some of the most challenging clients in the world.
