Double standards are one of the worst things in today’s society. It hurts to see people of different genders, positions, races, and ages evaluated differently. It’s supposed to be a fair world for everyone, but who are we kidding? Some things never change.
Here are 12 of the worst double standards in society.
1. Do you have any days off?
One of the most common double standards in the workplace is how some people are treated when they request time off when they’re showing up every other day, or when they’re a few minutes late for work. That’s it.
On the other hand, people who are deeply connected to their bosses and do nothing for the organization take as much vacation as they want and arrive as late as they want. It’s unfair and creates a toxic work environment.
2. Diaper changing station
These days, just as women embrace the role of mothers, so too do men. Parent-child relationships have no gender. However, some locations are different, such as only the women’s restrooms having diaper changing tables.
Men also need to change diapers, so it’s important that the women’s restroom has a changing table just like the men’s restroom.
3. Women should not abuse men.
Many men are taught to keep quiet about the pain and trauma caused by women because “women shouldn’t abuse men.”
That is not true and it will be passed on to generations of emotionally, physically and psychologically abused and untreated traumatized men. Their relationship also deteriorates because someone forced them to “be a man.”
4. Late arrival and late payment of salary
Being late is never a good thing and creates a negative impression on your employees. But life is unpredictable and sometimes we are late.
Some employees are only late four times a month, but their pay is late every month. Yet their employers are angry that they commit the same violations month after month. Isn’t it interesting?
5. 99 Rights and 1 Wrong
You can do 99 things right, but you’ll always be criticized for the one thing you do wrong. I have witnessed this firsthand and it is one of the most infuriating things a person has to go through.
What’s worse is seeing them make 99 mistakes and then praise others for getting one thing right. It stinks.
6. Loyalty to the company
Isn’t it weird that some companies expect you to be loyal when they can’t even pretend to return the favor? When they make you feel indispensable to them, they We expect full-time dedication.
Suppose a person receives a better offer than their current job and feels undervalued. In that case, if the company can fire someone without cause, they should be able to give notice and resign without any bad feelings.
7. Race-based news
News should be news, no matter where it happens or the races involved. “I read an article about a pregnant woman who was shot dead by 7 men who tried to steal her car and ended up losing her baby,” someone shared.
“This happened in February and no one had heard about it, but if the races were swapped it would honestly be international news.”
8. People of color should not be racist.
Yes, absolutely you can. Why not? Colors are of little use in determining a person’s inner self. Many forms of racism against white people are prevalent every day, but few people consider this a cause for concern. People need to pay close attention to the real meaning of things to avoid any hypocrisy.
People are made to believe every day that their actions cause pollution. While that has some truth to it, the main drivers of that message are the factories and corporations that are the real culprits in the fight against pollution.
It’s unfair that they become the “climate police” advising ordinary people on how to live their lives to “fight” climate change.
10. Body shaming
Body shaming comes in many forms, but it boils down to one thing: Body shaming for women is unacceptable, so what’s wrong with men?
People always make fun of men’s appearance or state what a “real” man should look like. However, in the opposite case all bets are void.
11. Ogree Eyes
Another double standard that society needs to eliminate is that women can stare at men as much as they want and there will be no harm done.
These men may have partners or dislike attention. Do unto them as you would have them do unto you.
12. Cheating is cheating
So many women don’t consider “flirting” with other women to be cheating, and they do so on a regular basis. They accuse their partner of being overly jealous or possessive when her partner fails to respond in kind if she returns the favor.
Women also need to understand that cheating is cheating regardless of gender.
