Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick traveled to New York on Tuesday, joining a list of Republican allies appearing outside the hush money trial facing former President Donald Trump. 34 cases of falsifying business records.
Trump’s legal team rested on Tuesday. President Trump had previously said he wanted to state his side, but ultimately chose not to testify. Closing arguments will begin next Tuesday, after which the case will be handed over to the jury to begin deliberations.
Patrick presents on X On Tuesday, he traveled to New York for the trial, parroting President Trump, saying there was “no crime” and criticizing the prosecution’s chief witness and the judge’s daughter.
“This is the kind of trial we might see in Russia, China, North Korea or a small dictatorship,” Patrick tweeted. “The Biden Administration is trying to contain President Trump because they know Biden cannot beat him in November. The whole country knows it.”
After the proceedings, Patrick joined other supporters outside and spoke to the media.
“We are here because we are friends of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and when friends are in trouble, friends are there for us,” Patrick said.
While at the microphone, Patrick defended the former president, saying he was targeted for saying something the “establishment” didn’t like.
“They want Donald Trump gone. They want to put him in prison. They want to get him out of the public eye because they know he is the biggest danger to the ruling class.”
A journalist followed this up by raising the question of whether Trump, a self-proclaimed billionaire and former president, is himself a member of the ruling class.
“Donald Trump is not the ruling class. Donald Trump is for every New Yorker. He is for every Texan, every state. Donald Trump is putting everything in his life at risk. , risking his entire life for the American people. When he came down the escalator, he probably would be called the man in the gap to stand up for the American people. You never expected it, and even if you didn’t know it, he’s standing up for you. ”
Patrick is the latest Texas Republican to visit New York on behalf of President Trump. Last month, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton flew to New York to attend the trial. They call it a “phony” and “a travesty of justice.””
President Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also spoke Tuesday, claiming the trial was politically motivated and attacking witnesses who testified for the prosecution.
Trump Jr. said, “As our defense team pursues perhaps the most unreliable witnesses in history, we cannot afford to ask them damning questions.” “What’s the best witness in this case, a nine-time convicted liar who now admits to being a thief? They’re the ones pursuing this whole thing. The other one happens to be a porn star. Not exactly the ultimate witness, but that’s what you have. ”
The trial will resume with a summing up on Tuesday, May 28th.
