With stage 4 cancer spreading across her brain and lungs and her head shaved, Teddy Mellencamp is fighting for her life.
Billy Bush from “Extra” spoke with Teddy about her health. Mellencamp was fitted with a gorgeous blonde wig and said, “I don’t look like I got a tup here.”
She said, “Today is a great day. I think one day I’ll feel good about what I’ve learned through all of this… someday, I… everyone’s journey is different.”
Mellencamp reveals how she remains positive during this difficult time, saying, “I’ve been checked by all of the people who say, ‘I’ve been checked for you’,” and says, ‘My doctor said I’ve got this checked, and I should do this too.’
“What we remember is that my cancer was skin cancer. The last thing we talked about here was skin cancer, melanoma, on the back. This is still in the form of melanoma, but in the lungs in the brain, but before I removed them, I checked four plum-sized melanomas in the brain. A few months.”
Next week is a crucial time for her. Mellencamp said, “On Wednesday, I’ll go in and get my next cat scan. Here I’ll find out if these recent tumors are getting smaller and get my third immunotherapy. I always thought the radiation was going to kick my butt, but it was immunotherapy.”
Mellencamp confessed that he would be in a “four days in a good mood.”
Teddi recently said the odds for defeating the disease were around 50/50. But she has a good outlook, saying, “In the heart of my heart, I’m going to beat it.”
She said, “I am saddened by the idea that I am not. My child is young. My child is young, and I still cause a lot of difficulties.
How her kids are doing in the cancer battle, Teddy said, “I think it’s okay because girls are so chatty, you know, they asked everything.
She explained in detail. “The other day I was taking a sip, I was taking a sip of something. He said, ‘Can I take a sip?” I said, ‘Yeah, sure’ and he said, ‘Never mind, you’re actually contagious’ and I said, ‘I’m not actually contagious, buds’ And he comes in the middle of the night and makes sure I’m breathing. ”
Teddi and her husband Edwin Arroyave announced their separation a few months ago, but they are pending divorce while she is battling cancer.
“We’re not the same, but getting a divorce is so stressful that we put all of the divorces on hold,” Mellencamp said.
They still live under the same roof, so he can help her and the children.
Teddi explained: “It’s called nesting, but most of the time he stays at home since undergoing these surgeries and then we spin, but we have separate bedrooms.”
She said, “He’s a good guy and we have a friendship. I think it was really great because it was something we liked each other in the first place and makes each other laugh. We call it the divorce chronicle.
Teddy’s famous rock star father, John Mellencamp, was by her side during the tough days after her brain surgery.
She said, “I think he arrived on the second day. So I went. I think my first surgery was the first day I was at Cedars. And I’d say I was blurry for about 15 days, and I started to start.
Mellencamp said, “My dad came one day and it was like my friends Kyle, Kelly and Jen, they were there most nights, and I felt very bad. But I don’t remember, my dad comes in. And Kyle is like, “My feelings are hurt.” “I don’t feel any pain.
Teddi said, “With that being said, he also took the brunt of it. He got some action.”
Before Teddi left, she emphasized the importance of getting a melanoma check. She said, “Check it out. Everyone please do it. I know it’s annoying. I might have three months away from the promise, and it’s your crazy, but it’s worth it.”
