When Teddi Mellencamp was diagnosed with melanoma, he showed his millions of Instagram fans his scars and cried. Now her disease has returned, but she is a warrior.
Extra’s Billy Bush spoke with Teddy, who spoke candidly about his health and best friend Kyle Richards ahead of the new season of RHOBH.
She commented, “This is crazy… every time I think I’m over it, I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m done.'”
Mellencamp has 13 melanoma patients. She said: She said: “This latest test involved a little biopsy and it came back. I had another wide excision and the edges weren’t very clear that time.”
Is she scared about the future? Teddy replied: “The biggest shock for me was when my life insurance application was turned down. That was a big wake-up call. And then I had a little conversation with my family. For example, I need to make a last will. There are things that you don’t necessarily experience when you’re 42 years old, so it’s like you actually have to face these things and go through with them.”
Mellencamp’s 11-year-old daughter, Slate, has been an active caregiver while Mellencamp is being treated with a new immunotherapy cream.
Teddy explained: “She wants the gloves and everything… She doesn’t trust anyone else to do it. One day she saw Edwin do it and said, ‘Dad, no, you can’t.’ It’s like, “This is exactly the place I have to go.” I think she has an eye for detail. ”
Teddy isn’t concerned that his health problems could be traumatic for Slate. She explained: She said, “As long as we can have an open conversation like, ‘There’s nothing to worry about right now, but there are times when we all have to rely on each other, so thank you for looking out for us.’ ””
That may also apply to Kyle Richards, whose breakup with Teddi’s former RHOBH co-star Mauricio Umansky is unfolding on the show.
Teddy said: “I think Kyle is one of my best friends. I care about her. We all know of course that they are currently separated, but they are very friendly. And I love them. I want what’s best for their family. And watching that trailer and seeing the kids, I think it’s hard to watch.”
Teddy does not know if Kyle and Mauricio are seeing other people while they are separated. She pointed out, “We’re all very good friends. If there’s something about it, it’s not for me to know.”
She added: “I think we’ll have to wait and see what happens. I think the whole family is great. I think they all love each other and have a lot of love and respect for each other. And I think that’s really what happens. I think what we see is what we end up knowing.”
Kyle and Teddy first head to New York to appear on “Watch What Happens Live.” Teddy has also received recognition from the Melanoma Research Foundation.
