Running for a cause is what they are doing this weekend at TCU. The students will be running for the next 48 hours.
TCU juniors Michael Turrell and Nate Moore organized a fundraiser in honor of their friend Wes Smith.
“He’s very outgoing. Very charismatic. He was the nicest guy out there,” said runner Michael Turrell.
Smith was a 21-year-old junior studying finance at TCU. Police said Smith was shot and later arrested after being randomly approached by a stranger outside a bar in Fort Worth.
In addition to running 4 miles every 4 hours, we also sell wristbands.
Turell and Moore said the money raised will go to the Wes Smith Foundation.
But they are doing this to honor Smith’s life.
Runner Nate Moore said, “What he put his time into makes a lot of people’s lives better. So it’s important that we carry on his memory and continue doing what he was passionate about. If I can go, I’m sure I will.” Do something great for your community. ”
“I want to not just give back, but really keep his memory alive. One of the things Wes’ mother said was, ‘Keep the faith,’ and that really resonated with me. We want to share those memories with the surrounding community,” said Turell. good. “
Turell added that this mantra will also keep him and others motivated to continue this run through Sunday.
“I’m not going to lie, I think it’s going to be pretty difficult, but as Mrs. Smith said, ‘Keep the faith,'” Turell said. Just keep running. ”
I run for the memories of my friends and push on.
“I want people to know how many people’s lives Wes touched,” Moore said. I want people to know how things have changed.”
Turrell and Moore had no immediate goals set for fundraising. But they have already raised $5,000 so far.
