Taraji P. Henson sizzled on the red carpet at Fight Night in New York City on Wednesday.
Extra’s Mona Kosar Abdi spoke with Taraji, who has been outspoken about the wage gap.
In December, Taraji made a powerful statement about the gender and racial pay gap in Hollywood, saying, “Math is not math.”
When Mona praised Taraji for sticking to her guns, Taraji said, “I didn’t start the conversation. I was just asked and I answered. It’s a question I’ve been asked my entire career. I don’t know why this was chosen as the time to get attention and for people to be heard, that’s not my fault. But this is not new news. It’s never new news in Hollywood and I’m not the only one saying this. So, you know, everything happens for a reason. I think that was the time for this to be heard.”
“Fight Night” is a limited series that follows the armed robbery that took place on the night of Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight.
Coming off of huge success with The Color Purple, Taraji spoke about her love for period dramas.
She said: “I love doing period dramas because it just seems like such an amazing time to be living in, to go back and play a part in a time when I wasn’t alive, or when I was just a baby. It’s fun because I look at the pictures and I think, ‘Oh, a time when women were feminine and had all their clothes buttoned up.'”
Taraji bared some skin at the premiere and laughed, “It’s the ’70s, things change!”
Mona also spoke with Chloe Bailey, who shared the best advice she’s ever received from Taraji.
Chloe said, “Definitely when she told me, ‘Stand in your own light. Don’t let anyone block your light.’ She told me that while we were shooting a scene and I’ll never forget it.”
“Fight Night” will premiere on Peacock on September 5th.
