The main complaint many potato chip enthusiasts have about the product is the bags that appear to contain ‘air’.
It can be disappointing to see a large package that you thought was full of your favorite salty snacks, break it open, and find only a small portion of the container inside, the rest empty.
Tyler, a subway employee and named TikToker (@smokoguuwop) he further fueled the flames of hatred for air-filled bags with a viral clip that showed how much air was inside a raise chip bag. His videos have amassed over 2.2 million views and generated a lot of comments.
@smokoguuwop It’s just air😭 #subway #phipsi #fyp #foryourpage #foryoupage # give birth #Ray Chips #everywhere #subway is fresh ♬ Original song – Tearer
He recorded a video from inside a subway store showing off the tip of the congregation in question.
“Okay, I’m on Subway now, I work here anyway, so I always stocked up on these fucking chips, and then I got a bag of chips, and it fell out,” he says.
Tyler holds the bag up towards the camera. It tastes like barbecue.
“Look at this. Remember when people talking about the Rays gave you a shitty vibe?” he says.
He then threw the bag up in front of him and it slowly slid down to the ground, showing that the bag was indeed filled with nothing but air.
“There’s literally nothing in this fucking bag, listen.”
“There’s nothing here. What’s that?” he concludes.
Despite several complaints about the amount of chips in the packaging bags, and Tyler and other customers claiming the bags contain “air”, It’s actually nitrogen gas.. It is used to create a buffer inside the package to minimize chip breakage and crumbling during shipping, keeping the product fresher and crisper longer.
But in Tyler’s case, the bag containing the chips in question was filled with nitrogen gas, but it seems he completely missed the “chips” part of the assembly line process.
TikTokers who saw the clip joked about the situation.
“No, it’s full,” joked one user.
Some people joke that it’s an Apple version and you have to buy the chip separately.
Other commenters said they’ve also found completely empty containers when buying popular brands.
“Too often, ordinary people don’t just give air, they send Dr Pepper cans literally empty,” a user shared.
Another person seemed to think this was a Subway-specific problem, writing, “This is why I always buy crisps and drink at the gas station before going home on Subway.”
This isn’t the first time customers have found strange bags without chips when shopping for their favorite brands. One of his TikTokers showed a strange metal pack in a raffle bag he bought and contacted the company about it, detailing a bizarre tale of sometimes making snacks inedible due to mistakes in the manufacturing process.
Then there was another RAYS customer who finally opened the RAYS bag and found that there was nothing inside the bag other than infused nitrogen gas.
