On Tuesday night, Sophronio Vazquez was named the winner of Season 26 of “The Voice.”
“Extra” caught up with Vazquez and coach Michael Bublé after the win!
Reflecting on the “magical” moment when his name was called, Sofronio said: “I never in my life thought this moment existed or would happen… It was truly a blessing.” he said.
Vasquez admitted he was “nervous” as he waited for the winner to be announced.
Sofronio said he is “most proud” to be on Team Bublé, adding, “I really feel like we represent a lot of different genres and…working with the extraordinary Michael Buble… “He knows what he’s doing because he knows what he’s doing.”
He continued, “The last two songs, I was really at a loss as to what to sing. I just trusted him, and he taught me things that I would never tell anyone.” It’s so valuable that I want to keep it to myself and it worked out so well that I’m here.”
Michael also said that he always chose difficult songs for Sophronio because he knew his artist could do it. He commented: “In the beginning, there were a lot of old school songs because I knew he could sing…I really wanted to do something that the audience would like, but in the end I wanted to show them that he could sing. I thought he was a modern singer and could do the most modern thing. ”
“We liked choosing female songs and Sia songs because we knew it would be unexpected,” Bublé added. “I knew there would be some fans of the show who would say, ‘Hey, this is an odd choice.'”
Michael said: “I kept telling him, ‘Listen, you’re not going to give in to the song, Vazquez. I don’t care how big the song is, I don’t care how great the artist who wrote it is. The song is yours. It’s a matter of preference and how you interpret things.”
Michael was also all smiles as he looks to further his bragging rights after achieving this win in his first season as coach.
He quipped, “I feel bad for John Legend, Adam Levine and Kelsea Ballerini because I’ll never stop driving them nuts over this.” He added: “This was the greatest experience of my life.
Michael’s other finalist, Shai, was runner-up and he said: “When there were two contestants, [Sofronio] said Shai, standing there. I just wanted to make sure Shai was okay. I wanted her to understand that this was the beginning of a story for both of us, and, not to disparage the show, but sometimes the biggest winners don’t win. It’s up to artists like me and Snoop and Reba and Gwen, and I think we’re really committed to that and trying to make sure we’re contributing to these artists becoming stars outside of the program as well. ”
