President Biden recently rolled out the red carpet for President Xi Jinping, saying he stands ready to forge a friendship with the regime responsible for reprehensible human rights abuses and an ongoing campaign to undermine democracy around the world. .
Gov. Gavin Newsom cleaned the streets of San Francisco and publicly acknowledged that the beautification was purely for the benefit of visiting leaders.
After a high-profile retraction, Biden and Xi reported that they had agreed to reestablish military communications, work together on the flow of fentanyl chemicals, and work together to reduce climate change.
Is it possible that Biden and Xi Jinping can reach an agreement that allows them to trust and support the dictator?

Communication is important, but we must be realistic about how to deal with nations seeking global hegemony by any means necessary. We must not forget that this is a country that kills, enslaves, and rapes ethnic minorities, including Uyghurs, Christians, and Muslims, and imprisons anyone who opposes the regime. .
Historically, the Chinese Communist Party has come to the negotiating table when the economy is in a downturn. Biden had an opportunity to show strength and demand real change from the administration. Instead, Mr. Xi got exactly what he wanted from his trip: photos of San Francisco streets painted red and a warm public greeting from Mr. Biden.
What could we have gotten in return? A restored panda at a zoo in the United States appears to be the only artifact.
Certainly we had no reassurance about Taiwan’s safety and security. In fact, according to people present at the meeting, President Xi made clear his full intention to unify Taiwan with China, by force if necessary.
No word on the 200 Americans illegally detained in China. Any agreement on the use of artificial intelligence for climate change or nuclear weapons development will almost certainly be unilateral in its application.

No one wants war with China. That’s why it’s imperative that Biden and his entire administration understand that dictators like Xi will never respond to a gentle handshake.
The only way to ensure cooperation from the Chinese Communist Party is for Mr. Biden to stop standing in the way of the United States reducing its dependence on China by bringing back domestic mining and manufacturing. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that China can turn off the faucet at any time.
More than a third of my voters are Asian Americans, many of whom are first-generation Americans who fled communism and found freedom in the United States. My own parents fled communism in North Korea.

Those of us who experienced communism firsthand or through our parents understand the real and immediate dangers of weakness when engaging with China. My constituents know that there is no logic in Mr. Xi’s evil government. He will never be satisfied until the Chinese Communist Party has sole global hegemony.
The United States is at a crossroads at a critical time. Biden may have missed an important opportunity in San Francisco, but it is not too late to reverse course and end this delusional appeasement policy.
