In my experience, everyone would like to better organize their photos, but very few are doing it.I once tried coaching through a colleague Photo organization makeover, and failed miserably. We made a plan, but months later she was unable to execute it.
Most people want Minimize the effort to organize your photosI would like to be able to group or label similar images so that they can be easily found and shared. that’s it. Frankly, Apple’s Photos app organization tools are the simplest. As soon as you take a picture with your iPhone sort them into albums With the same iPhone, this is very convenient.
That’s why using the Photos app to organize photos on your iPhone is easy and convenient, and most people want it.but that’s where you are should do it Want to store and organize your photos? Simply put, the answer is yes. iCloud.
Are you missing out on other great benefits by using iCloud for storing your photos? Yes, but very few. Let’s unpack.
What are the drawbacks of storing photos on iPhone?
The downside to using the Photos app to store and organize your photos is that if you haven’t already paid for iCloud, you will soon. You are intention In particular, using iCloud back up photos not only, backup phone Save other files.
Once you’ve hit your storage limit, your options are to delete items, migrate all your photos to another service, or fork 99 cents or more per month to expand your iCloud storage.
I have nothing against iCloud. The paid version is competitively priced. 99 cents a month gets you 50 GB of storage, which is decent. iCloud is also very useful if you own an Apple device. It also works on Windows PC. However, if you look at the price per GB, it’s not the cheapest option (drive It wins in that respect), but it lacks some important features. In other words, iCloud is not. The only option for storage and sync.
What can I use instead of iCloud to back up my photos?
If you already have Microsoft 365 Therefore the extra OneDrive storage, or you pay drop boxgoogle drive/Google Oneor other cloud storage services, need iCloud, to be exact.
Most cloud storage services have iPhone apps that can automatically transfer photos and videos from your phone to your account, including new ones. Once the copy is saved to your storage account, you can delete it from your phone. Dropbox and OneDrive call this Camera Upload and turn it on from the settings. For Google Drive, you need the Google Photos app called Backup & Sync. Most other storage services also have it.
What features are missing from the Photos app and iCloud?
The big thing the Photos app doesn’t do is name your files. To give the file itself a new name, you must export the file, give it a name, and upload the new file to iCloud again. In effect, you can’t use filenames to your advantage when organizing your photos.
Anyway, I don’t think most people rename their photo files, but it can be very helpful in the long run to keep your images organized and easy to find. can Add captions and include descriptions and keywords in them. But do you? Probably not.

Speaking of searching, another thing you can’t do if you store your photos in iCloud is searching when you use the iCloud.com website. It doesn’t even have a search tool. I think Apple assumes he’s using his iPhone, iPad, or Mac whenever he’s looking for photos.
Organize your photos with the Apple Photos app
If you use iCloud and the Photos app to organize your photos, here are the main ways to organize them. For all of them the app does a lot of automatic organization.
The Apple Photos app automatically adds searchable keywords to your images. You can also add captions manually. If GPS was enabled when the photo was taken, the location is also displayed as part of the photo’s metadata. (Credit: Apple/Jill Duffy)
album. Albums are the primary way to organize your photos in the Photos app. The app automatically creates some albums. Many people like this. With a bit more work, you can also create your own albums and folders. At least it’s minimal.
face. Apple automatically identifies faces in photos and finds images of the same person. If you want, you can add a name by opening the photo and tapping the circled i at the bottom. Identified faces appear at the bottom of a small little circle with an even smaller question mark next to it. Tap the question mark to add the person’s name.
keyword. The Photos app also automatically adds keywords, whether you want them or not. So, on your phone or Mac (not on iCloud.com), you can search for keywords that describe the content of your photos. Some of my photos were labeled “tattoos” in the Photos app. I’m not thrilled that Apple freely tagged my body like that. I can’t find a way to turn this feature off, opt out, or manually override it.
Editor’s pick
“Glasses” pulls up a photo of me with sunglasses and another family member with glasses, which is not particularly helpful. Some words are more appropriate, such as “baby” or “wedding”. Do these keywords work for you and your photos? You have to experiment.
position. If you turned on location services when you took a photo, the Photos app automatically saves that location as part of the image’s metadata. That means you can search for Bangkok or Thailand to find photos taken there. If you’ve turned off location services, you can add location data manually. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner and tap[場所の調整]and enter as specific a location as you like. But I think most people don’t care. This is a tedious process, but at least[ライブラリ]or[アルバム]You can do it in bulk from the view.
Is your iPhone storage almost full?Enable this setting
For those who continue to use iCloud and Photos to store and organize their photos, there is one very important tip to know. iCloud Photo must be enabled on your phone. It stores low-resolution copies of your photos on your phone so you can view them, and keeps full-resolution versions (which take up more space) only in the cloud. That way, your phone’s storage won’t fill up too quickly and you’ll still have access to the original copies of your photos.
To enable iCloud Photos,[設定]>[設定]Go to. [your name] > iCloud > Photos and enable iCloud Photos. Then select Optimize iPhone Storage.
Note that you must first enable the Sync this iPhone option for this option to appear.
Should I store photos on my iPhone and the Photos app?
If you use an iPhone or other Apple hardware and don’t mind paying a few bucks a year, sticking with the Photos app and iCloud to store and organize your photos isn’t a bad option. In my experience, Apple’s tools aren’t bad at all, considering most people don’t want to do anything when it comes to organizing their photo collection. Convenience is probably the biggest selling point.
If you want more control, or if you already have other cloud storage and don’t want to pay twice as much, moving your photos out of iCloud isn’t too difficult.
