Mobile, Alabama (Straw) — Police are investigating reports of a shooting that occurred in downtown Mobile as New Year’s Eve was being celebrated in the streets.
Witnesses say several people were shot, but police have not confirmed. People reported hearing gunshots and running for cover.
FOX10 News confirmed a cell phone video clip posted by a viewer. This shows at least two of her apparent victims on the pavement.
Police and mobile firefighters responded to downtown mobiles Saturday night before the New Year arrived. They were called to the Dauphin Street area between Jackson Street and Joachim Street.
Carly Bragg, who was downtown for the New Year’s Eve celebration, said: “It sounded like super-close fireworks. The timing was wild. We were driving past the area and it happened.”
Bragg said she and her friends “hid in a hallway, maybe 15 to 20 feet from the sound, and when we realized how close we were, we noticed a window popping out of the Urban Emporium. He said.
A South Royal Street shopkeeper told FOX10 News that attendees at a New Year’s Eve celebration flooded her store seeking refuge after gunshots were reported.
