Subhan: Selangor executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said the Selangor Airshow 2024 (SAS 2024) achieved its potential trade volume target of RM1.3 billion.
Ng said SAS 2024 had already exceeded the target set by the Selangor state government on the first day of the airshow.
“Today alone, 12 MoUs were signed. These 12 MoUs are valued at RM1.3 billion. About 30 MoUs are expected to be signed in the next one or two days and we are confident that we can achieve a higher transaction value,” Ng told reporters after the opening ceremony of SAS 2024, themed “The Region’s Only Business and General Aviation Show” today.
“As of today, we have over 40,000 registered visitors, with over 30,000 of those registered from the general public,” he said.
Looking to the future, Ng said Selangor was preparing to meet the demand for 32,000 skilled workers in the sector by 2030.
“Our initiatives such as the Selangor Aeropark and the Selangor Aerospace Apprenticeship Programme (SAAP) are aimed at nurturing young talent and helping the industry expand.”
To attract and develop skilled talent, Ng said the state government will work closely with aerospace companies to undertake high-impact projects and provide training programmes and financial incentives through SAAP.
“These initiatives are aimed at reversing the brain drain and encouraging skilled overseas professionals to return to their home countries and contribute to our country, especially in the aerospace industry,” he added.
Ng emphasised that Selangor’s future in these industries is bright: “If we continue to innovate and seize future opportunities, I am confident we can achieve great things.”
Ng said the Selangor Airshow plays an important role in showcasing local capabilities to the world.
“This year’s show will introduce several new programs to cater to a wider audience, including an exotic car exhibit that will add a new dimension to the show and appeal to non-aviation enthusiasts alike,” he added.
SAS 2024 took off today at Skypark RAC, Selangor, under the auspices of Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaji.
Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari said his state was aiming to make SAS the top airshow in Southeast Asia and one of the best in Asia by 2030.
As Malaysia prepares to assume the ASEAN chair next year, the country has a unique opportunity to establish itself as a leading platform for businesses to meet, collaborate, exchange ideas and expand their networks, he said.
“As Selangor aims to cement its position as the gateway to Asean, the Selangor Airshow is poised to be the flag-bearer in the skies for Asean, a rapidly growing region home to more than 680 million people,” he added.
The show provides a platform for local companies to showcase their innovations while also attracting international investors seeking new opportunities for growth and partnerships. This year’s show will feature 50 aircraft on static display, including the Diamond, Falcon 8X and Piaggio Avanti, and is expected to attract visitors from over 45 countries.
SAS 2024 is expected to generate more than RM1.3 billion in potential transactions across 128 booths, with 88 companies from seven countries – Singapore, China, the UK, France, India, Australia and Cambodia – participating.
Prominent participants include Textron Aviation, Dassault Aviation, Signum Aviation and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Highlights of the show include exhibitions, static aircraft displays, drone demonstrations and networking opportunities.
