R&B singer kathy Hip-hop mogul Sean Combs agreed Friday to settle lawsuit over bombshell comments lawsuit Just a day earlier, she had accused him of rape, sex trafficking and brutal assault during their personal relationship, her lawyer said.
Terms of the settlement between Combs and his ex-girlfriend Kathy (real name Cassandra Ventura) were not disclosed.
But on Thursday afternoon, Kathy’s lawyer said Combs had offered her an “eight-figure” sum, ranging from $10 million to $99.9 million, to prevent her from filing the lawsuit.
Combs’ attorney Ben Brafman on the same day strongly denied the lawsuit’s “baseless and outrageous lies” and said Kathy demanded $30 million while threatening to write a book about their relationship.
“Tonight, we resolved to the mutual satisfaction of Mr. Ventura and Mr. Combs the claims against him filed yesterday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York,” Kathy’s attorneys said in a statement late Friday.
“The parties will make no further statements beyond what is contained in this email,” the statement said.
“I have decided to resolve this issue amicably, provided that I have some control,” Kathy said in a prepared statement included in the email.
“I would like to thank my family, fans, and lawyers for their unwavering support,” the 37-year-old singer added.
“We have decided to resolve this matter amicably,” Combs said in his own statement in the same email.
“I wish Kathy and her family all the best. Love,” said Combs, 54, who has been affectionately known over the years as “Diddy,” “Puff Daddy,” “P. Diddy” and “Love.”
“To be clear, the decision to resolve the case in 2023, in particular, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing,” Brafman, Combs’ attorney, said in a statement Saturday. Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the case in no way detracts from his blanket denial of the claims. ”
“He is pleased that a mutual settlement has been reached and we wish Mr. Ventura all the best,” Brafman said.
Combs’ net worth was estimated at $1 billion last year by Forbes magazine.
Kathy’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, said: “I’m so proud of Ms. Ventura for having the strength to make her case public. She should be commended for her actions.”
The settlement is the latest in a shocking civil lawsuit that Cathy filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court against Combs, his music label, Bad Boy Records, Bad Boy Entertainment, Epic Records and Combs Enterprises. It ended so quickly and surprisingly.
The complaint alleges that years after Kathy signed the then-19-year-old to Bad Boy Records in 2005, Combs induced her into a sexual relationship that lasted nearly 10 years.
The complaint alleges that Combs “indoctrinated Kathy into a lifestyle of excessive alcohol and drug abuse and required her to obtain illegal prescriptions to satisfy his own addictions.”
The charges include “brutal” beatings Combs allegedly inflicted on the singer over the years and blowing up another man’s car after learning he was interested in her. It is vividly explained in detail.
And Kathy, who wore a suit, said Combs forced her to have sex “with a male sex worker while he masturbated and filmed himself doing it.”
“Ms. Ventura has suffered and continues to suffer immeasurable emotional pain as a result of over a decade of untold trauma with Mr. Combs,” the complaint said.
