NETHERLANDS — To promote safe driving among students, Holland Christian High School hosted an international ‘save lives’ tour this week.
The tour is a “comprehensive and impactful” driving awareness program designed to demonstrate the “potentially fatal consequences of poor choices” made by motor vehicle drivers.
The tour visited HCHS on Friday 27th January. Two of his driving simulators, one using virtual reality, were made available to students.
Holland Christian High School has 330 students who regularly drive to campus on parking permits issued by the school. Many of those students also bring siblings to schools in other HC buildings.
Principal Miles Corago said in a statement, “It is my sincere hope that all of our students will thrive as bearers of God’s image and step into the calling God has given them.” The program is one small but important way to draw attention to preventable mistakes that can stop them.”
Friday’s event began with the entire school gathering for a rally to hear about the dangers of distracted driving. A simulator was set up in the gymnasium so that classes would take turns for the rest of the day.
Virtual reality simulators demonstrated the dangers of driving impairment by showing the effects of alcohol and drugs on a driver’s reaction time, motor skills, and judgment. In a second simulator, students were provided with smartphones to send and receive texts while avoiding collisions while driving.

A monitor was set up so that I could watch my classmates trying to navigate the road. Separate monitors displayed videos related to impaired or distracted driving and the consequences of those behaviors.
