San Francisco airport evacuates Terminal 2 food court for ‘abandoned merchandise’; one passenger says family tried to bypass security
Police are on the scene after people were evacuated at San Francisco airport, bags were left unattended, and a family member bypassed security at the exit.
Locals reported police swarming the area, planes being moved and people being forced out of buildings.
San Francisco International Airport said only that there was “abandoned merchandise” in the Terminal 2 food court.
San Francisco International Airport tweeted, “#SFOAlert – SFPD is responding to remove items left unattended in the food court area of Terminal 2. The food court and D-gate areas have been removed with due care. ” issued a statement.
Traveler Lisa Alpert took to Twitter to warn her fellow travellers.
“Everyone around the D-gate food area in Terminal 2 was evacuated and asked not to move as security assessed the situation. The security line was also suspended,” she said.
She added that the terminal had been evacuated. “But if you were to leave the airport or go to another wing, you were allowed. You are allowed to board the .” Unclear what is going on. ”
Other travelers also took to Twitter to find out what was going on.
@DLoutsis tweeted: “What’s wrong @flySFO… Captain just told us law enforcement to move to our plane while we were waiting to go to the gate. And we’re getting further away from the building now, it’s a matter of law enforcement.”
@allie_oldham replied, “Bags left unattended in food court area. Terminal being removed as we speak.”
@hhekas1 tweeted: “Something is going on at SFO right now, everyone at Gate D has been evacuated and the police have zoned out the area near the gate.”
“Everyone has been evacuated from Terminal 2 and now everyone is about to enter T3,” said another Twitter user.
@FoodWineMaven claimed “TSA personnel waiting for police to arrest a family member who entered the terminal through the exit and skipped security.”
Images posted online show a large crowd growing as worried travelers moved on and waited to see what was happening.
@carolynlight posted a video of the waiting crowd and posted, “Evacuation Terminal 2 at SFO. Fire and Ambulance.”
