“My Best Friend’s Wedding” star Rupert Everett is married!
In an interview TatlerEverett revealed earlier in the summer that she had married an accountant named Enrique.
The couple exchanged vows at Camden Town Hall in London and had a post-wedding dinner at Italian restaurant Ciao Bella.
He admitted: “I’ve always hated weddings, but I love funerals. But as I get older… I’ve seen so many of the issues that same-sex couples face, and I think it’s important to be more proactive now that we’ve been together for so long.”
“And I don’t know how long I’ve got,” Rupert joked, “because I’m a tall guy, I’ve never seen anyone 6’5″ tall at 95 years old. You never know what’s going to happen.”
Rumors were circulating in June that Rupert and Enrique had tied the knot.
A source told DailyMail.com: “They recently got married, they’re both wearing rings and seem very happy. Enrique is absolutely charming and he seems rather quiet and happy to let Rupert take the lead role.”
A few years ago, Rupert Mind Food Magazine, “Well, marriage is not heaven for me. Once you turn 18 or 19, you start going to weddings. In fact, I found all my friends’ weddings disgusting. Going to a bachelorette night in the early ’80s was one of the worst things I’ve ever been through. When I think about it, I’m gay and I’m really lucky to have avoided going through that. Appalling weddings, ugly wedding dresses, horrible clothes the men have to wear and weird things where the groomsmen give rude speeches.”
He continued, “I don’t get it, everyone breaks up within two years, so it just didn’t appeal to me. Wedding cakes are awful, there’s nothing good about them. I think making it a legal contract is very damaging to a relationship. A relationship should breathe, live, change and be different every day. If you’re comparing it to a Polaroid or a wedding snapshot, then I think you’re screwed.”
He hesitated, Times “I wouldn’t mind getting married now,” he said.
He continued, “I’m going to marry my boyfriend, but only two or three people will come to the wedding.”
The couple have been together for 15 years.
In the ’80s, Everett was married to Bob Geldof but had a six-year affair with TV presenter Paula Yates.
During a 2021 interview on “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories,” he said: “I have to say we were very, very close for a long time. She was someone I admired and still admire. I think I was in love with her.”
Yates died in 2000 at the age of 41.
