Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump on Sunday slammed Maryland GOP Senate candidate Larry Hogan for calling for the public to respect the ruling in former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
“Let me just say this: I don’t support anything he said,” Lara Trump said. interview “I think it’s absurd and I don’t think anybody who’s not speaking out against something that should never have seen the light of day in court, that should never have been brought against anyone other than Donald Trump, deserves any respect from anybody,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“At this point, he doesn’t deserve the respect of anybody in the Republican Party,” she added, “and frankly, if that’s how you feel, you don’t deserve the respect of anybody in America. And that makes me so angry to hear that.”
Asked whether the Republican National Committee would give Maryland’s Senate seat to a Democrat and not support Hogan’s candidacy, Lara Trump said the committee wants a Republican victory but that Hogan’s comments were “disgraceful” and that “he should think long and hard before he makes any public statements.”
When pressed again about whether the RNC would use party resources to support Hogan’s Senate bid, Lara Trump dodged the question and again criticized Hogan’s comments.
“Well, I’ll get to the financial details later, but as the co-chair of the Republican Party, I think he should never have said something like that,” she said. “I think it’s ridiculous.”
Hogan, an outspoken critic of Trump and former governor of Maryland, called on “all Americans to respect” the ruling in Trump’s hush money case in a post on X last week.
“Whatever the outcome, I urge all Americans to respect the ruling and the legal process,” Hogan said. Post to X Last week, he said: “At this dangerously divisive moment in history, all leaders, regardless of party, must not add fuel to the fire with even more poisonous partisanship. They must reaffirm what has made this country great: the rule of law.”
Sen. Hogan’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Republican National Committee co-chair’s comments on CNN follow similar comments made last week by Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign. In a post on X, LaCivita said the Senate campaign was “over” after Hogan called on people to “respect the ruling and the legal process.”
In her CNN interview, Lara Trump also did not provide details about how much money she has raised to cover the former president’s legal costs.
The Republican National Committee’s co-chairman argued Sunday that voters “spoke with their wallets and their pocketbooks” and boasted that the GNC had raised roughly $70 million in digital fundraising in the first 48 hours after Trump’s ruling.
Asked how much of that money would go toward the former president’s legal costs, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee said “we’ll have to wait and see.”
“Well, anyone who donates to our Community Chest Agreement has the option to opt out at any time,” she said. “It’s a very small percentage of the money we receive, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the need is going to be.”
“Obviously, this was a tremendous loss, not just to Donald Trump and his campaign, but to America as a whole,” she added. “I think the stain this has on our country is abhorrent, and we will do whatever it takes to make sure the right thing happens on November 5th, because that’s the day the final verdict will be rendered.”
