The judges hailed the fully recyclable HDPE monomaterial barrier packaging range as “the first viable alternative to composite barrier packaging and a market game changer” .
ReZorce Circular Packaging received top honors in the Recycled Plastic Product of the Year category at the 2023 Plastics Industry Awards. ReZorce is created as a mono-material alternative to difficult-to-recycle composite packaging materials typically used in applications such as beverage cartons, and is expected to make its commercial debut in early 2024.
Announcing their verdict, the judges said: “This breakthrough plastic material will replace the very commonly used but difficult to recycle multi-layer barrier packaging board, offering a real opportunity for the industry to solve long-term environmental problems with monolithic products. – an easily recyclable alternative material.
“[ReZorce is] A fully recyclable HDPE monomaterial barrier packaging range, the first viable alternative to composite barrier packaging and a market game changer. ”
Currently, ReZorce has a co-development agreement with a leading global beverage packaging company. A trial to replace liquid packaging substrates (LPB) in juice cartons is planned for early 2024 with a major European retailer.
ReZorce offers comparable performance to standard LPB, but is easier to recycle through standard household collection and has a much lower environmental impact. Importantly, it’s designed to be compatible with existing infrastructure, making it easy for retailers, brand owners, manufacturers and consumers to migrate, and its patented multi-layer structure allows it to meet set goals. Along with being able to incorporate recycled plastic into the core. Compliant with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive.
Neil Court-Johnston, president of Zotefoams’ Mucell Extrusion business unit, said in response to the award: “We are honored that ReZorce has been named PIA’s Recycled Plastic Product of the Year. With the importance of a circular economy in packaging firmly in the spotlight, the judges felt that ReZorce was a winner of PIA’s Recycled Plastic Product of the Year award. We recognized that we were offering an unnecessary and environmentally superior alternative to the status quo.”
“As ReZorce’s commercialization in 2024 approaches, we are increasingly excited about its prospects. I am aware of that.”
Founded in 2001 and held annually in London, the Plastics Industry Awards has established itself as a forum for recognizing and recognizing excellence in an increasingly competitive market. This event is dedicated to recognizing innovation, sustainability and outstanding performance.
