Genting Highlands: Resorts World Genting (RWG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nestle Malaysia to supply Harvest Gourmet plant-based alternative food products at meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions and F&B venues.
The agreement, which takes effect on October 1st and will run for one year, will give RWG access to the full portfolio of Harvest Gourmet products.
RWG’s executive vice president of sales, marketing and public relations, Spencer Lee, said the leading integrated resort wants to strengthen its commitment towards a sustainable future and development.
“With this in mind, we are incorporating sustainability elements in our kitchens and bringing more plant-based foods to the table,” he said at the ongoing Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo.
Nestlé Professional Malaysia and Singapore head Yit Wun Lai said the company is open to collaborating with RWG to raise awareness of plant-based alternatives in Malaysians’ diets and grow the meat-free food segment. “Harvest Gourmet offers a viable alternative for increasingly environmentally and health-conscious consumers who are looking to incorporate high-quality, all-natural, plant-based ingredients into their diets.”
As part of its partnership with Nestle, RWG has been offering a wide range of meat-free, plant-based protein menus using Nestle’s plant-based solution, Harvest Gourmet, in most of its F&B outlets since September 1.
Meanwhile, RWG has also established a partnership with Aqina Farm, signing a Memorandum of Understanding on the second day of the inaugural Genting SustainBiz F&B Expo. The collaboration highlights RWG’s commitment to community development and the environment through sustainable agriculture.
Known for its Halal-certified Kampung Chicken, Akina Farm employs an eco-farming system that uses chicken manure as organic fertilizer to improve soil quality and produce high-quality MD2 pineapples, which aligns with RWG’s goal of promoting sustainable food sources while supporting environmentally friendly practices.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Plantations and Commodities Datuk Chan Hoon Hin.
The partnership aims to empower B40 farmers by supporting Aqina Farm’s B40 Farmers Programme, which provides training in sustainable agricultural techniques to rural communities, increasing their skills and economic stability.
A unique feature of this initiative is the Akina Farms buyback guarantee, which ensures farmers a reliable market for their produce and further promotes economic stability. To date, the program has trained 32 farmers and equipped them with essential resources for sustainable agriculture.
Additionally, the collaboration will promote sustainable agriculture and healthy living by making Aqina Farm’s MD2 pineapples available at select RWG locations, raising nutritional awareness among customers and supporting local agriculture.
“We are pleased to support AkinaFarm’s efforts to support B40 farmers through sustainable agriculture,” said Lee.
“By providing Akina Farms’ MD2 pineapples and supporting their training programmes, we are strengthening our commitment to community wellbeing and environmental sustainability. This partnership also echoes government’s commitment to supporting the B40 community and ensuring inclusive growth and opportunities for all.”
Akinafarm Group managing director Wesley Tan See Ging said the company’s collaboration is a step towards promoting sustainable agricultural practices and providing meaningful support to B40 farmers. “We look forward to a partnership that will enhance the welfare of our local communities and align with our commitment to environmental stewardship.”
