Fatman Scoop, the revered hip-hop figure who had a major hit with 1999’s “Be Faithful,” died Friday in Connecticut after suffering a medical emergency onstage.
He was 53 years old.
In a statement, Scoop’s agency, MN2Ss, said of Isaac Freeman III, aka Scoop, “He was a beloved figure in the music industry whose work was cherished by countless fans around the world. His iconic voice, infectious energy and incredible personality left an indelible mark on the industry and his legacy will live on through his timeless music. Fatman Scoop was a valued part of the MN2S family for 15 years and his passing is deeply saddening for us all.”
Scoop fell ill and was taken to hospital at approximately 8:30 p.m. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed the shocking news: Social Media.
TMZ Scoop posted a video of himself striding across the stage shirtless and then collapsing, after which CPR appears to have been administered immediately.
His death was announced the next day.
Scoop has worked with household names, from Timbaland to Ciara, Mariah Carey to David Guetta.

Questlove penned a lengthy and poetic tribute. InstagramFinally, he concluded by saying, “I want to thank FATMAN SCOOP for embodying the essence of hip-hop. Forget your worries, live in the moment, and embrace the joy. I’m so sad to see you go. I’ll miss you, but you’ll never be forgotten.”
Scoop is survived by his two children and his brother.
