MLB’s wild card round is complete, with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds joining the fray. The Orioles, Astros, Braves and Dodgers all begin their postseason journeys in Game 1 of the LDS on Saturday. Some were more successful than others.
The Orioles encountered renewed momentum from the Rangers in Game 1 of the ALDS. The playoff energy at Camden Yards was off the charts, but Texas still had enough offense and enough pitching power to pull off a 3-2 victory.
The Twins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1, winning their first playoff game since 2004, and swept Game 2. The defending World Series champion Astros turned out to be someone else. Houston won Game 1 6-4 behind Yordan Alvarez’s two home runs and Justin Verlander’s six scoreless innings.
Arguably the best hitting team in MLB during the regular season, the Braves defeated the Phillies 3-0 with a great performance from Ranger Suarez and the Philadelphia bullpen. Bryce Harper hit a home run, and a questionable interference call by the catcher led to an extra run that led to Atlanta fans throwing trash onto the field.
The Orioles and Twins will look to bounce back in Game 2 on Sunday, but the Braves will have to wait until Monday.
All four Game 1s will be played on Saturday, so you can sit back, relax, and watch a full day of playoff baseball action. Not a bad way to spend a weekend.
