Game 2 of the NLCS was a similar story for the Philadelphia Phillies, who won 10-0 behind Aaron Nola’s six shutout innings and took a 2-0 series lead. He hit three more home runs, increasing his total in the past four games to 15, a postseason record.
Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber hit solo shots early, giving the Phillies a 2-0 lead against Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly.
Schwarber hit his second 445-foot solo home run off Kelly in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Phillies a 3-0 lead. The Fox Sports broadcast reported that this was the first home run Kelly surrendered on his changeup this season. Kelly had retired the Phillies for seven straight games before Schwarber carried him deep to right-center field.
Schwarber’s big hit started a four-run inning.
The Phillies added two more runs in the seventh inning on Alec Bohm’s two-run double.
In the end, Boehm scored a come-from-behind goal, increasing the Phillies’ lead to 9-0. Then Nick Castellanos’ sacrifice fly made it 10-0.
Nola was outstanding, pitching six shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing three hits, and the Phillies’ bullpen did the rest of the work on the mound.
The series moves to Phoenix for Game 3 on Thursday.
