Murray, 30, was an outstanding golfer from a young age. He won the Callaway Junior World Championship three years in a row (2006-08) and was the top-ranked golfer in his age group. At age 16, he made his first appearance on the Korn Ferry Tour, becoming the second-youngest player ever to do so. After studying at Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State University, he got the opportunity he needed in 2016 when he was given a sponsored exemption to play in a Korn Ferry Tour event near his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina. He finished in the top 10 at that event, the Rex Hospital Open, and qualified for the next one. His professional career soared when he finished in the top 10 again at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. He closed out the season by winning the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, which placed him second on the Korn Ferry Tour prize money list and earned him full PGA Tour status for the 2016-17 season. The win came one week before his 23rd birthday.
