Scott Reynolds: Creamsicles curse lives on despite losing Bucks again
This is going to piss off some Tampa Bay fans, but if the Bucs lose one more Creamsicle uniform game, it will be time to bury Bucco Bruce again. But as long as you keep buying retro merchandise, teams will continue to produce the worst losing uniforms in NFL history every year. The throwback game was a fun novelty over the years, leading up to kickoff. The team has since lost its last four games with winking Pirate helmets in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2023. Without Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, and with the defense playing absolutely terrible football, I expect the Orange and White’s losing streak to reach five. game.
For a chance to beat the Falcons, Todd Bowles needs to play man defense in tighter coverage – But he doesn’t. He will continue to play in soft zones. Bowles needs to get KJ Britt, the worst inside linebacker in the NFL, off the field on a passing down, and he doesn’t. He’ll keep JJ Russell on the bench. Bowles believes all of his defensive problems can be solved simply by improving communication. I doubt Kirk Cousins will throw for 509 yards again, but over 300? Yes, please write in pencil.
I trust Liam Cohen more than Bowles right now in terms of figuring things out and adjusting things. If the Bucks have any chance of beating the Falcons, it will be important to get an early lead and maintain it. I’m looking forward to seeing what Cohen can do without Evans and Godwin, and how creative he can be. That doesn’t feel like enough, as Bowles’ defense can’t stop Cousins and the Falcons’ offense. I was the only one who picked the Bucks to beat the Ravens last week and watched what happened. In the words of The Who, you can’t be fooled anymore.
Reynolds game prediction: Falcons 27, Bucks 20
Reynolds season record: 3 wins, 4 losses.
Matt Matera: Bucks shock Falcons with Creamsicles win
Normally, Bucs fans would get mad about Tampa Bay wearing the Creamsicle throwback jerseys, but that’s because the team has only won once since wearing the uniforms in five games as an alternate, in 2009. But with everything going against the Bucks at the moment, it stands to reason that the Bucks’ injury minus and Creamsicles minus will reverse the curse and the team will win, right?
There is no doubt that Sunday’s game against the Falcons will be a tough one for the Bucks. It’s difficult, but not impossible, for Mike Evans and Chris Godwin not to work together. Offensive coordinator Liam Cohen will be essential in this game, and fortunately he has a great run game to help him along with the strongest offensive line ever. If Tampa Bay can continue its onslaught with Rashard White, Sean Tucker, and hopefully Bucky Irving, the team will be able to control the pace of play. With little of Atlanta’s pass rush attack, Mayfield will have time to throw and eventually one of his receivers will be open.
What I’m very concerned about is Tampa Bay’s defense. At this point, I don’t believe Todd Bowles will make the right adjustments to slow down the Falcons’ offense. All they want is to limit Bijan Robinson and play more man-to-man like they did last time. The zone defense in the middle of the field destroyed the Bucks. They need a turnover or two to win, but somehow, somehow, the Bucs end up on a splash play. A win will keep the season on track.
Matera Prediction: Bucks 28, Falcons 24
Matera’s season record: 4 wins, 3 losses
Bailey Adams: Picking the Bucks against my better judgment
Everything is telling me to play against the Bucks this week. They are having a short week after losing their top two receivers to injury. The Falcons just won 36-30 in overtime against Todd Bowles’ team three weeks ago, with Kirk Cousins setting a franchise record with 509 passing yards. I’m not a believer in the “creamsicle curse,” but for the sake of argument here, that’s just part of the bad vibes going on over the weekend.
But contrary to my own logic and everything I feel about this, I think the Bucks might find a way. First and foremost, it’s up to Bowles to find the answers for Cousins and this Atlanta offense. Unless Tampa Bay’s defense plays its best game of the season and can’t keep Cousins, Drake Rondon, Kyle Pitts and Bejan Robinson in check, this team’s chances of avoiding a sweep of the season by the Falcons will be over. .
I think this defense alone is enough. And I have newfound faith in Tampa Bay’s run game, especially after New Orleans proved to be no fluke and took on Baltimore’s top-ranked run defense in Week 7. I like the run game leading the way and Baker Mayfield playing a clean game and being successful, linking up with Sterling Shepard and Cade Otton to score touchdowns and the Buccaneers winning by a close margin. It probably doesn’t make sense, but against my better judgment, I’m joining the team wearing orange and white.
Adams’ game prediction: Bucks 23, Falcons 20
Adams’ season record: 4 wins, 3 losses.
Josh Quapo: Bucks win with late rally at home
The Bucks will face off against themselves in a rare Week 8 playoff-like game. Yes, Tampa Bay will be without its two most prolific receivers. And certainly, the defense has been under sieve for a wide swath of the season. But here’s something we may not have fully considered. The Falcons defense is actually worse than the Bucks. The Bucks are allowing 0.036 EPA/play while the Falcons are allowing 0.043. And the Bucks allow a 45.8% success rate while the Falcons allow 46%.
The Bucs’ pass rush is inconsistent. The Falcons are no Pass rush. The Bucks have forced 10 turnovers this year, while the Falcons have just seven. The Falcons allowed 18 points to the hapless Steelers offense and 20 points to the Panthers. The Bucs’ offense behind a top-five offensive line (yes, you read that correctly) will produce enough yards and points to help the defense. It looks like Tampa Bay will play better than their Week 5 loss at Atlanta and keep the Bucs’ playoff hopes alive.
I expect to see less KJ Britt, a smaller defense, and better performance in the middle of the field. Expect offensive coordinator Liam Cohen to continue impressing as he recaps things and recalibrates expectations while pushing Tampa Bay’s run game to the top of the league. And we expect the team’s yo-yo season to continue for another week.
Quipo’s game prediction: Bucks 23, Falcons 21
Quipo season record: 4-3
Adam Slivon: Bucks clean up defense and perform well enough to beat Falcons
Looking at the Bucks’ season trajectory this week, a lot has changed. As they prepare to face the Falcons for the second time in the last month, they hope to bounce back and persevere despite losing two of their biggest offensive linemen. Losing Chris Godwin and Mike Evans during a tough game cannot be taken lightly.
still, Baker Mayfield seems confident in the weapons he has left. And you have to be able to distribute the ball well enough to move the football when needed. Mayfield won’t need to carry much of the offense, especially with the run game picking up steam in recent weeks. The three-headed monster of Rashard White, Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker remains, as does an offensive line that will only get better as the season progresses. Don’t expect him to continue his 30+ point outbursts, but he’s talented enough to think he can stay in the ball game as long as his defense is solid.
Coach Todd Bowles’ team’s performance is the worst of his tenure as head coach. Despite possessing above-average talent, his defensive game plan has not been up to par in stopping matchups this season. Perhaps their worst performance came Thursday night against the Falcons, where Kirk Cousins had 509 passing yards and four touchdowns. By comparison, this was more than double the passing yards Cousins had in every game this season (241 passing yards in Week 2 was Cousins’ second-highest). What helps is knowing how Atlanta attacks, but you have to adjust so you don’t experience it. deja Sunday afternoon.
The team has shown determination in must-win games before, most recently by traveling to New Orleans early before Hurricane Milton hit Tampa Bay. They need to show that same mental fortitude again after being thrown a curve ball in a big loss midway through the season. The familiarity of playing against the Falcons again this week should be a plus. I may sound like an optimist, but I expect them to pull off a close victory, stay in the NFC South, and reverse their fortunes while rocking the Creamsicle uniforms.
