However, this article explores a new approach to travel insurance from PassportCard Insurance.passport card Global Nomad Insurance Innovative because it is completely App-based travel service.
Personally, I never go on a trip without making sure I have travel insurance.
There have been several situations where travel insurance was required. One in Thailand when he was hospitalized for three days and one in Greece when his son was injured.
We are fine now, but it was a stressful situation and we had travel insurance so we didn’t need to worry about the additional costly and unexpected medical bills.Do you need travel insurance?See the article for more details.
Getting a travel insurance refund is a hassle
One of the main problems with using travel insurance is that many insurers require co-payments to receive treatment. After that, you will be refunded when you make a claim. As you can imagine, this is pretty stressful and especially worrisome if you’re short on funds.
When our son cut his eye on playground equipment in Greece, we were forced to pay out-of-pocket expensive private medical bills. Then I should have considered getting a refund from my travel insurance company after the fact. We were lucky it was only a few hundred euros.
There has to be a better way.

That’s where PassportCard Nomads comes in.
Review of PassportCard nomad insurance
PassportCard Nomads is essentially a travel insurance credit card that allows you to access and manage your travel insurance using an app.
Use your card in an emergency by following these three easy steps:
- Open the app.
- Select the service you want (money will be added to your card and used immediately).
- Use your card to pay for medical expenses.
Just swipe your red card and PassportCard Nomads will pay your medical bills.
That’s what makes this insurance different. PassportCard says it is the only insurer that can resolve claims in real time, sometimes within minutes.
Extend or cancel anytime, anywhere.
Who is PassportCard Nomads insurance for?
PassportCard Nomads insurance is primarily aimed at digital nomads and remote workers away from their home country who want to purchase expat travel insurance.
Generally aimed at young and long-term travelers (although there are plans up to age 65).

How does PassportCard Nomads work?
A PassportCard is a prepaid card that pays for medical services. Just load through the app, no questions, no paperwork, no hassle.
To purchase PassportCard insurance, visit the website and purchase a plan. (You’ll find more details on the plans they offer later in this post.)
A physical red Nomads card will be shipped within 7 business days of purchasing the policy.
Sign in to the app and finish setting up your account and settings.
If you need a bill, open the app to claim funds and pay for medical services with your card.
What are the potential drawbacks?
PassportCard nomads work just like a regular credit card, so they should work in all countries around the world. There are some areas in the world where the VISA network does not work. For example, sanctioned countries.
There is also a small chance that the VISA network will be down due to technical issues. In either case, you can pay out-of-pocket and be reimbursed later, just like regular travel insurance.
Passport Card Nomads insurance is app-based, so problems can also arise if you don’t have access to the app.
If you’re in a location without data or Wi-Fi, you can’t access the app to add emergency funds. Likewise, if something catastrophic happens and you become so sick or injured that you can no longer use the app to add funds.
If Wi-Fi is not available, or if for some reason you are unable to add funds using the app, you will need to prepay and receive a refund later, just like any other travel insurance policy.
In general, I think the chances of either of these happening are very low. In the unlikely event of an accident, the initial cost will be reimbursed just like any other travel insurance.

PassportCard Nomads coverage does not automatically lead to lost luggage. If you are looking for baggage covers, you may need to obtain them separately.
However, you can get add-ons against camera or laptop theft, or optional coverage for baggage and personal effects.
