ChatGPT, OpenAI’s viral chatbot, is back online after a brief but major outage on Wednesday morning.
The chatbot began returning errors to users just before 9 a.m. ET, impacting OpenAI’s API service, which is used by more than 2 million developers. ChatGPT users are told that “ChatGPT is currently at capacity,” and the status page refers to the issue as a “major outage.”
“Between 5:42 AM and 7:16 AM Pacific Time, an error occurred that affected all services. We have identified the issue and implemented a fix. We are currently receiving normal responses from the service. ”OpenAI said on its status page.
Anthropic’s Claude 2 chatbot, a ChatGPT competitor created by a former OpenAI employee, also encountered problems on Wednesday. I got an error saying “Claude is unable to respond to your message due to an unexpected capacity limit.”
The outage follows OpenAI’s first in-person event on Monday, where the company announced GPT-4 Turbo, its most powerful artificial intelligence model to date, and a new option that allows users to create customized versions of ChatGPT.
Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, told reporters on Monday that more than 92% of Fortune 500 companies use the platform, up from 80% in August. , said it spans industries such as education.
