Netflix’s One Piece has secured another actor for a key role in season 2, and it has a connection to the Bridgerton family. Do you remember Edwina Sharma, who appeared in season 2 of the British Regency drama? If not, let us remind you. Played by Charitra Chandran, Edwina was the younger sister of female lead Kate Sharma. Now, she’s joining Eiichiro Oda’s production as Nefertari Vivi, aka Miss Wednesday.
On Friday, One Piece Netflix confirmed the news on Instagram with a video of Charitra expressing her excitement to join the cast. She said, “Hey everyone, I am so excited to be joining the One Piece cast. I am so grateful to Oda sensei for entrusting me with the role of Vivi. I know how much she means to all of you. I will do my best to play a role that is worthy of her and make you all proud.”
This comes a day after One Piece season 2 revealed the face of Princess Vivi’s father, King Nefertari Cobra of the Kingdom of Alabasta. Manga readers will know his tenacity that led to the dissolution of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Moreover, they also know how his sacrifice helped Sabo (Luffy’s stepbrother) escape. On Thursday, One Piece Netflix’s Instagram announced that the character will be played by actor Sendhil Ramamurthy. “At the heart of Alabasta, a desert kingdom roiling with rebellion and buried secrets, stands a king like no other. Introducing Nefertari Cobra, a pillar of integrity for a kingdom at a crossroads,” the announcement read.
It was previously revealed that Katey Sagal of “Sons of Anarchy” fame will play Dr. Kureha, an elderly doctor who works on Drum Island and is nicknamed “The Witch.” She becomes Tony Tony Chopper’s adoptive mother and mentor after the death of his father figure, Dr. Hiliruk. The role of Hiliruk will be played by Mark Harelike of “Presumed Innocent” fame.
One Piece Season 2 is expected to cover the Rogue Town, Reverse Mountain (Twin Cape), Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island arcs.
