The Golden Triangle Homeless Coalition received an increase in donations for its annual Northside Charity Boil Sunday.
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Golden Triangle Homeless Coalition received an increase in donations at their annual Northside Charity Boil on Sunday, May 26th.
Hosted by Collin Krieger and held at his home, the event will feature a crawfish boil, fish fry and live entertainment.
Krieger said the event started small but has since grown.
“It started as a neighborhood party with a few friends, and then it grew. Eventually we started raising money, found a charity and decided to keep it going,” Krieger said.
Their charity of choice was the Golden Triangle Homeless Coalition.
“This is an issue that hits close to home for us. We have families that are struggling and of course we have friends back home. The people behind this are some of the hardest working nonprofits in the area,” Krieger said.
Homeless Coalition president Susan Garton said events like this help with fundraising efforts.
“We feel like every penny raised through donations and T-shirt purchases contributes greatly to our mission of helping people in need of temporary housing and making down payments for people moving into housing they normally wouldn’t be able to afford. And of course, because we’re supporting tiny home villages, every penny raised goes straight back to us – there’s no overhead,” Garton said.
This event continues to grow year after year, bringing the community together.
“We expect to see between 400 and 500 people over the course of the day. It’s a great show of what Columbus does for goodwill and a good time,” Krieger said.
This year was the 11th annual Northside Charity Boil.
