A developer has secured financing and broken ground on a 100% affordable high-rise apartment building in Washington, D.C.’s NoMa neighborhood. Amenities at the apartment building will include workshops for residents on topics like personal finance, entrepreneurship, and economics.
Developer NRP Group has secured financing and begun construction on a 100% affordable high-rise apartment building in Washington, DC’s NoMa neighborhood.
Amenities at the facility will include workshops for residents on topics such as personal finance, entrepreneurship and economics.
Once completed, the building will be rented to Washington, D.C. residents who earn 30% to 50% of the area median income.
The Emblem is a 115-unit apartment building designed with Flatiron-style architecture, which NRP and partner Marshall Heights Community Development Organization hope will attract service and hospitality professionals who can’t afford Washington, D.C., housing costs and endure long commutes from home to work.
Emblem is located at 301 Florida Avenue NE on a triangular block within walking distance of Metro. The site is right next to the Union Market district.
“The emblem represents DC’s efforts to address the longstanding need for affordable housing and ensure its equitable distribution across all wards,” said Babatunde Oloyede, president and CEO of the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization.
“This new community will enhance the neighborhood’s vibrant atmosphere and provide much-needed affordable housing,” he said.
On-site amenities will include a toddler playroom and a multi-use community centre hosting events and workshops.
The building is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
Emblem’s lending partners include the DC Housing Finance Agency, the Department of Housing and Community Development, the DC Housing Authority, DC Green Bank and Bank of America.
