Nimona is an animated film based on the best-selling graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson. This graphic novel was released as his webcomic in 2012 and as a paperback graphic novel in 2015. The animated version of “Nimona” has been acquired by Netflix.
The film will be released in June 2023, much to the delight of Nimona enthusiasts and graphic novel author ND Stevenson himself. ND Stevenson continued, “Nimona has always been an unstoppable, bubbly little story. She’s a warrior…but there are some really great people who fight for her.”The Nimona movie lives on…2023 We are extremely excited to announce that Annapurna and Netflix will bring you all in 2019.”
Development of this animated film first began in 2015 under 20th Century Fox. Fox’s animation division, Blue Sky Studios, was responsible for the project. Production was well underway when it decided to shut down Blue Sky because Disney bought Fox and the company already had Pixar and Walt Disney Animation. The project was canceled and the producers were certain Nimona would never make it to the screen.

In February 2022, Netflix filed a copyright application for the name Nimona. The following month, Netflix announced Nimona’s appearance, with production resuming in the first half of 2022. This animated film is set in a techno-medieval world and has a unique plotline. Netflix has released an official teaser and synopsis –
“A knight is falsely accused of a crime he didn’t commit, but the only person who can prove his innocence is Nimona, a disfigured teen who may also be the monster he vowed to kill. Ever. Set in a techno-medieval world unlike any other animation, this is a story about the labels we give people and shapeshifters who refuse to be defined by anyone.”
