Nico Tortorella and Bethany C. Myers are parents again!
The couple welcomed their second child, a boy named Pesco Pearl Meyers Tortorella.
in an essay by people In the magazine, the couple revealed that their son arrived “in the middle of Hurricane Milton” last week.
She said: “The moment I realized I was in labor in the middle of Hurricane Milton, I was lying in bed in the hotel room I had evacuated to that night. My first reaction was denial, but then… Terrified, and then quickly surrendered. The home birth I had imagined turned out differently, but just like pregnancy, parenting, and babies, nothing can be predicted and we are in control of our thoughts. You cannot.”
“But as God’s timing knows better than we do, the contractions stalled, the storm passed, and we were home to welcome our 10/10 Hurricane baby, Pesce Pearl Meyers Tortorella. I could go back!” Bethany added. “It was a long and beautiful birth, but a peaceful and powerful one after that. I always feel humbled and honored to have been born into a vessel shaped by something so much greater than myself. We were given the opportunity to bring life into this world. There were times during our infertility treatments when we thought we would never have a baby, but now we have two. I will never forget how lucky I am and I will forever be grateful to my birth team, my husband, my daughter, and my son for holding the space for the most transformative experience of my life.
As for how they decided on their son’s name, Bethany said: “Our first child, Kilmer, was named after his grandfather’s last name, so it made sense that this baby would be named after Nico’s grandfather’s last name. “I mean,” he said. These names were chosen years before they were invented. My middle name, Pearl, is a nod to my father’s middle name, Earl, and a stone that meant a lot to us during our pregnancy. ”
The couple decided to move to Florida after the birth of their first child, daughter Kilmer.
In another essay, Nico says: Many of our families have migrated south, so having children almost requires closeness. This was one of the best decisions we ever made. Ironically, the day we arrived in Florida, we became pregnant with our second child. After years of struggling with infertility to conceive Kilmer, our little guy showed up with little effort. Everything felt exactly as it should. ”
“We always knew hurricanes and Florida went hand in hand. As October approached and our due date approached, we found ourselves living on a barrier island in an obvious evacuation zone. “During the storm, we had to discuss plans for a home birth,” Nico said. “When Hurricane Helen hit Florida and headed north, the damage was heartbreaking. Then along came Milton. Living on the East Coast, we thought we’d be fine. , the storm is a surprise. We decided to evacuate on October 9th. Accessibility was key. If our bridge closed, our birthing team would not be able to reach us. ”
“So we packed up. The shutters were down, the birthing tent was dismantled (the same one Kilmer was born in), and our car was full. We weighed 2 lbs. I threw my Chihuahua into the car. Those five minutes of crossing the bridge were the scariest of my life, and I wasn’t expecting a tornado. As soon as I got into the car, the sirens hit the ocean waves. A tornado was approaching.”
Tortorella opened up about Bethany’s birth, saying, “40 minutes later we were in a nondescript hotel, ready for anything. After an hour of sleep, Bethany woke me up and said, ‘Baby, the contractions have started. “I think my water just broke.” There’s a pause followed by “F—.” This is exactly what it was. We were in the middle of a hurricane and about to have a baby with a tornado nearby. ”
he admitted. “The next 18 hours are a blur and we’re still figuring out how we made it home. We plan to film and record our entire origin story for our new podcast, Full of Shift. Available wherever you get podcasts. Our son, Peche Pearl, was born in a tent under the stars, listening to the waves crashing nearby. It was perfect. ”
The couple announced that they are expecting a baby in April.
Bethany announced her pregnancy on Instagram. write“In the Meyers-Tortorella family, our hearts, our families, and my belly are all expanding. 🥰 We are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our second child in October.”
“It took us years to conceive our first child, and this baby entered our lives as soon as we hit the water. It still feels completely surreal. It’s a feeling,” Myers continued. “We’ve already seen the difference in personality between the first and second child, so it feels like a lot of fertility and family expansion is divine timing. We’re trying every earthly strategy to get a baby.” Our baby has executed all the strategies in the heavens. Together, we will prepare for their grand entrance into the world.”
