A year ago, the House emerged from three weeks of internal turmoil when Republicans voted Mike Johnson Speaker of the House.
At the time, the left-wing media clutched their pearls, furious at the idea that a true conservative would hold the second most important job in Washington. The progressive media threw everything at Chairman Johnson in hopes that something would stick. They called him “far right,” attacked the American flag he had flown outside his office, and mocked his religious beliefs. Democratic strategist James Carville even made the absurd claim that Johnson’s Christian faith was more dangerous to America than Al Qaeda.
Former Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal I wrote it at the time“It is shocking to liberals that the Republican Party has elected a chairperson who shares many of the views of voters,” because in Washington, “many elected officials do not speak to the voters five minutes after the polls close.” “They easily forget their campaign promises.”
Mike Johnson begins swing state tour as Republicans cling to House control
Today, one year after the left erupted in hysteria and hatred against Speaker Johnson, and one year after the media began bombarding them with unrelenting false attacks, House Republicans are calling out Speaker Johnson’s strength. We should recognize their strength, determination, leadership, and political acumen.
After taking the oath of office, House Speaker Johnson declared that he strived to uphold and govern in accordance with the “seven core principles of American conservatism.” These include individual liberty, limited government, the rule of law, peace through force, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and human dignity. Despite having the smallest majority in Congressional history, Speaker Johnson exceeded expectations on all seven fronts and built a strong leadership team.
He led the House of Representatives in response to anti-Semitic college campus protests, stood on the steps of Columbia University, and pressured the university’s president to resign for tolerating indiscipline and anti-Semitic hatred. He fought for individual freedom and human dignity. He once again represented our values when he led the House to overturn the Department of Education’s ridiculous rewrite of Title IX that allowed biological males to participate in women’s sports.
Johnson slams Biden administration’s ‘lack of leadership’ on Helen: ‘Alarmed and disappointed’
When House Speaker Johnson inherited a fiscal year 2024 spending mess, he limited the scope of government and demonstrated his belief in fiscal responsibility. He calls on Democrats to strip $20 billion from President Joe Biden’s Internal Revenue Service expansion, $6 billion from Biden’s unused coronavirus-era slush fund, and break with Omnibus’ shoddy practices in government funding. forced me to do it.
In the interest of the rule of law, Speaker Johnson led the House to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for refusing to enforce border security laws and ignoring lawful congressional subpoenas. Speaker Johnson secured funding for 22,000 Border Patrol agents, the highest level ever. That’s the same number authorized by the Republican-signed border bill, HR2. He took common sense legislation to protect our country from criminal aliens and exposed the Democratic Party’s radical track record. This happened when the House of Representatives voted to deport illegal aliens who committed theft, assaulted police officers, and abused women. He could have gone further, but in September, 14 Republicans joined with Democrats to oppose Donald Trump, pushing Sen. Chuck Schumer’s hand away and making it clear that only Americans can control American elections. blocked a bill that would have required voters to prove their citizenship so they could vote.

In the name of free markets and fair trade, Speaker Johnson has done more than any other House speaker to stand up against Communist China’s exploitation of the American economy and unfair trade agreements. President Ronald Reagan once said, “Free trade, by definition, is fair trade.” No one is more committed to ensuring effective free trade in the U.S. market and reversing Congress’s long-standing tolerance for rule-breaking by Beijing than Chairman Johnson.
And for America’s global leadership, Speaker Johnson secured much-needed additional aid for Israel and the toughest sanctions package against Iran in nearly a decade. When Senate leadership chose to throw money at the issue, he forced Democrats to impose sanctions on Russia and China. He outsmarted Sen. Schumer and brought Prime Minister Benazimin Netanyahu to the Capitol for a joint speech. He succeeded in publicly humiliating Canada and making it commit to meeting its NATO spending obligations. No wonder the Wall Street Journal editorial board labeled him “Leader of the Free World.”
Of course, no chair is perfect, and Johnson will be the first to admit his limitations. But as a former Speaker of the House, I assure you that all the critics who want Speaker Johnson to “toe the line” or “get tougher” on Democrats have never been in House leadership. . They don’t understand how complex the chair system actually is. As a warning to those who are not very religious and make fun of Chairman Johnson’s faith, please remember that Chairman Johnson’s dedication makes it almost impossible to intimidate him.
The 2024 election is less than two weeks away. While voters have doubts about how a Republican-led Congress will govern, conservatives know what they will get from Speaker Johnson. He is a bold, principled, and thoughtful leader and legislator. He’s from the same family as President Reagan.
