What happened to competency as a standard of expected performance? Or qualification? Or maybe sexual privacy? These virtues, once the cornerstone of liberal Democrats, are lost in today’s Democratic Party.
As the son of a civil rights leader and former NAACP chapter president whose family desegregated neighborhoods in north-central Indiana, I have experienced this country’s progress firsthand.
But what we see in liberal politicians is not progress. They demonstrate virtue by appointing officials solely on the basis of their favorable identity, rather than on the merits of their character or qualifications. In fact, it’s the opposite of what civil rights and freedom fighters like my father fought for their entire lives.
Republican Sen. Issa demands answers from Senate leaders Newsom about LaFonza Butler’s Maryland residency
California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is doing an injustice to the voters who elected him Governor for All. With millions of Californians to choose from, he favors race, gender, and sexuality in selecting a replacement for a recently vacated U.S. Senate seat who doesn’t even live in the state.
By choosing Maryland’s LaFonza Butler to serve as California’s senator, Newsom has made it pretty clear how he feels about his fellow Californians.
Being a black female member of the LGBT community checks off a lot of pandering boxes on Newsom’s list, but apparently being a resident of the state is not one of them.
That in itself is unfair. There are probably social justice groups in California who will protest and loot, pointing out the hypocrisy preached by Newsom.
Don’t think this is new to California. Look at former U.S. senator turned vice president Kamala Harris. In 2020, then-candidate Joe Biden proudly declared that he would choose only black women to be her running mate, and Harris was immediately marginalized as a race and gender choice rather than a meritorious choice. Ta.
Look how it turned out. Kamala currently has the lowest vice presidential approval rating in our nation’s history.
Her racial and sexual identity aside, Newsom’s Choice is clearly a fundraising machine, raising millions of dollars for pro-choice candidates across the country.
This donor’s Rolodex will be very useful in his eventual bid for president when he finds a way to unseat Biden.
When I was elected Indiana Attorney General in 2016, voters thought the candidate aligned with their political beliefs. They didn’t see me as a black person. They saw me as a leader who would stand up and fight to protect their way of life as defined by the Constitution.
If Butler were actually elected statewide, I have no doubt that she would represent the weirdness of California. To be honest, her politics are in line with most of the state. However, her residency in Maryland would disqualify her from running for office. Therefore, she should be disqualified from her appointment.

The left is pandering to the voter and donor base that gets them through the primaries. Rather than focusing on characters, they focus on traits.
I understand the need for racial equality in our country. I went from being a kid whose house was firebombed by white racists to becoming the attorney general of Indiana. But my story is not like checking a box for a quarter here.
Being a black female member of the LGBT community checks off a lot of pandering boxes on Newsom’s list, but apparently being a resident of the state is not one of them.
We also understand that progress cannot be forced and must be fought for. Just like I fought to get where I am, just like my father fought before me for my future, we are leaders who roll up our sleeves and work to achieve what we achieve. I need it.

California is struggling. Record crime rates, a mass exodus of residents fleeing the high cost of living, and the city is filled with drugs and people. Newsom shouldn’t focus on getting more black lesbians from Maryland into the U.S. Senate. He should focus on how he can get gasoline in California for less than $7 per gallon.
If our country is going to truly progress and move toward a more just society, we need the pandering and checks that fuel Washington, D.C., and left-wing politicians who are just looking for a way to get rid of President Joe Biden. We must reject political correctness. .
