“It’s a Small World” at Disneyland Paris
“It’s a Small World” was an opening day attraction at Disneyland Paris, which opened to guests on April 12, 1992. The park is celebrating its 30th anniversary, but the attraction has been closed since November 2021 for renovations. It was originally scheduled to reopen. It opened in November 2022, but renovations were extended and finally reopened last month.
The renovation work included an outdoor façade and some technical upgrades.
Most of the vehicle, including the façade, has been repainted, although it was last repainted five years ago. Some wooden elements have been replaced with composite materials.
The cruise control system was also believed to have been replaced, and the control tower used by the cast members was also to be enlarged. Other backstage areas were also reportedly updated with flooring and electricity.
The lighting and hydraulic system have been updated in the ride scene. About half of the dolls have also been replaced. A new doll in a wheelchair was also installed during the renovation to emphasize its inclusivity.
Disney also reportedly took the opportunity to remove asbestos used in the construction of the building’s air conditioning system and framework. Asbestos was not banned in France until 1997, five years after the opening of Disneyland Paris. The amount of asbestos in the building did not exceed legally permissible levels and did not pose a significant hazard to guests or cast members.
