Gahanna, OhioWorld Cup) — A new walk-up shop in Gahanna that’s been a decade in the planning is now serving coffee and supporting military veterans.
SGT Coffee opened its doors on Monday at 106 Short St. The shop is owned by husband and wife Ryan and Brandi Sargent, who said the couple have been married for 25 years and had been talking about starting a business together, Ryan said.
“I went out on a coffee date early on a Saturday morning,” Ryan says, “and started doing the Columbus Coffee Tour. I wrote the whole booklet and thought, maybe I can do this. So I started dreaming about what it could be like.”
Ryan is a military veteran himself, and he and his wife want to sponsor a local veteran nonprofit once a month through their coffee shop. Brandi recently lost a family member who was a veteran, so she created a drink in his honor. All proceeds from the sale of this drink will be donated to a veterans charity.
“I have a cousin who passed away a little over a year ago, and his radio call was Easy 42,” Brandi says. “He was a veteran, he served in Afghanistan, and he loved caramel lattes, so this drink is named after his radio call, and we’re going to donate 10 percent of the drink to the Gary Sinise Foundation.”
SGT. Coffee Co. is a mobile coffee shop converted from a pop-up camper that sells coffee, sparkling drinks, and teas and has partnered with Crimson Cup for flavors, syrups, and sauces.
“Right now it’s all drinks, but from the first week of July we will also be serving vegan and gluten-free pastries from Madeline’s of Granville,” Brandi said.
The coffee shop is open Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 2pm.
